QOTD-Friday

If you are not from the current town you live in, why did you move there?

If you are in the town that you grew up in, why haven't you moved?

Re: QOTD-Friday

  • My family moved here when I was 8. I'm still here cuz I got married- DH has a good job here and our families are close. If I had not met DH when I did, I was looking to move to Charlotte.

  • I was born in Pensacola and lived here again in 3rd grade. In between we lived all around Alabama. I consider Brewton, AL my hometown because I lived there the longest amount of time, 6th-12th grade. After high school I moved to Milton, FL (about 20 minutes away) to live with my dad for a little while and try to go to school. Eventually I met H and we lived in Milton then moved to Pensacola. H is from Pace, FL (between Milton and Pensacola). I don't see us moving out of this area.

  • I was born in Texas and my parents moved back to Jacksonville to be close to family. I haven't moved because most of our family is here. We would consider moving if we found the ideal jobs.
  • We moved here because JJ was offered a job at Flagler post grad-school and it was the only offer he got when we absolutely had to move (townhouse lease ended). He later on got 3 more offers, but we were already here :(  I have nothing against Jax or the area, it's just really far from my family.

  • I moved here to be with an my now ex boyfriend. He moved to Jax 6 months before me from MD. We stayed together long distance then I decided to move. I got accepted to UNF and moved in with him and his roomate. We only stayed together for about a year after I moved but since I was in school I had to stay. If I wouldn't have met DH I probably would have moved back to Maryland after graduation.

  • I grew up in various navy cities, but San Diego is what I consider my "hometown". I moved here at 16 because of the Navy, and stayed because I got married and my family is here.

  • I moved to Tallahassee from Maryland to go to FSU.  I had never seen FSU's campus before I set foot on it 4 days before my freshman semester started.  My whole reasoning at 18 to pick FSU over the 4 other colleges I was accepted to was 1) it was warmer than MD and 2) it was the farthest college away from my parents (mostly my mom) at the time.

ETA: After my relationship with my ex ended I was seriously considering moving back up to MD to be cloer to family/friends.  Then I met DH and we made our home here because he has no desire to move up to the NE to deal with all the traffic/congestion & HCOL.

  • We moved here whan I started school at UNF.  Plus my mom really wanted to get out of a small town and be in a "bigger" city... so off to Jax we moved.  I've been here since.  We're still here because DH and I's immediate family is here and all of our friends are here.  The only other place we were considering moving would be HI, but it's just too expensive for us.  So unless we get a really great job opportunity or win the lotto, we'll be here.

  • I moved to Jacksonville because I was stationed in Mayport in the Navy. Then I met DH so I haven't left yet.

  • I moved to Pensacola in 1998, when I was in 10th grade.  We moved here b/c my step-dad was a Marine and he was stationed here to teach.
  • I grew up in west l.a. and went to college in l.a. too.  I never thought I'd move away but then I got an amazing job offer that I couldn't say no to.  DH and I moved here together about 3 1/2 years ago.
  • I was born in Pensacola and have lived the majority of my life here, with a couple of years here and there in Navarre.  I will never live in Navarre again, I didn't want to move there the last time I did and now Im not going to go back.  My parents are here and my life is here now.  I love Pensacola, but I can see myself moving once I graduate.  I would like to stay in Florida, but who knows.

  • I moved to P-cola because H's family's business is here and let's face it.  The weather is a heck of a lot nicer than in WI.

  • Technically I moved to St Augustine, and that was for our house. But I don't really have any desire to move away from the area. Climate wise it's pretty ideal IMO.
  • H and I moved here from MD b/c of his job relocation. We have enjoyed living here, but we will move back to MD when we want to start TTC. We want to be around family when we have kids. Warm weather is great, but it doesn't make up for family. :)

  • I grew up in Jax, moved to Gainesville for college, and moved to where I am now for my job. If we move again it will probably be if DH gets a better job somewhere else. He's miserable at his current job, so he's looking.
  • We moved here when I was in 5th grade, so I consider this home.  Most of my family is in South Georgia, but I only lived there for a few months when I was really little, so it's not home to me.

We have no plans to move - my parents and brother are here and I want our kids to grow up close to their grandparents.  I like where we live and we have a great group of friends.

  • My parents decided to move to Jax (from Ronkonkoma, NY) the summer before my senior year of high school. I was 17. They wanted less congestion and a lower cost of living and picked Jax because of the warm weather which still came with a decent change in seasons. It sucked for me but my sisters were starting junior high and high school so 2 to 1, I lost. They say I'm not allowed to complain about it now because I met DH two months later. I tend to agree.

  • I am from Jax and I've never lived anywhere else.  I'm still here because I've never had the desire to move.  If I wasn't here, I wouldn't have met DH and that cute little person in my siggy wouldn't exist.

  • I was born in Brooklyn but grew up in south Jersey. I came bec DH is from here and was already settled with a good job when I graduated college, and it seemed unrealistic to ask him to uproot himself when I didn't have anything going for me at the time.

  • We move about once a year. We are trying to find our forever home.  We love FL.

  • I am from a teeny tiny town in rural Pennsylvania. I met my H in college and he was going to be in the Navy once he graduated. We got married, got sent to Pensacola, and then we moved to Jacksonville a year later.

I don't think I would ever move back home (much to my mother's dissatisfaction) because unless I want to become a farmer or work at the one local grocery store there's nothing for me.

  • We moved for my DH to finish school, then we moved back home because we are at that age where starting a family is on the horizon and we want to be surrounded by family aka free babysitters.

What part of PA? I went to school within jogging distance of dairy and corn farms, but it was also not too far from civilization. lol

  • I was born here and moved to Alabama for college.  I moved back because I didn't have a job yet and I lived with my mom until just before DH and I got married.

I'm still here because neither one of us have found jobs other places and now that my grandma has passed I have the feeling that we (well, I) will be needed more around my mom's house.
