Does this happen in any of your cities when it snows?
I remember when I first moved to Chicago how weird I thought this was. People will shovel out their parking spot on the city street and then "dibs" it with boxes, lawn chairs, etc. to save the spot they shoveled out for their return.
On Wednesday there as a brief segment on the news that 4 of 5 mayorial candidates had saved shoveled spots on city streets.
It's such a funny concept. We've never done it but then again, we only drive about once a week.

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermAnd here, removing someone's spot saver will get your tires slashed. Or the tires of the poor person who parked there after you removed someone else's spot saver. Seriously. Spot saving is not for the faint of heart in Boston. Technically, people are only allowed to save it for 48 hours, but some people start this (cough*southie*cough) the minute there's a hint of snow in the forecast and continue right through spring.
