DH and I just got new phones last night (long story)! He got a Droid X and I got a Droid Incredible that I may not keep because I can consistently hear myself when talking on the phone and it comes through sounding like I'm talking in a tin can. Might just be a bad phone but we'll see.
Anyways - tell me what I need to know! For a phone that does so much, there is shockingly little literature that came with it and I feel like I'm one of those technologically challenged "old" people trying to figure it all out!
What are your fave apps? Any tips/tricks I should know about? I just realized today that I can pretty much get rid of my Garmin because the navigation program seriously rocks. ![]()
Re: Droid users - impart your knowledge!
I have the X also.
#1..download the advanced task killer! It will be a huge help! If your system is running slow, hit the task killer. Most of the time it's because their are too many programs running and can slow it down.Droid light (flashlight)
Angry Birds (game)
Catch (list maker that I LIVE by)
Bump ( DH, DD and DS all have droids also so we can bump picts, contacts, etc)
Pandora
Latitude (google maps)
Talking Tom (hilarious!!)
TV Listings
Where's my droid (if your ringer is ever low or on vibrate and can't find it, you just text "where's my droid" to your phone and it will turn up the ringer.)
Zedge (we do all wall papers and ringtones here ...all free)
Vlingo (if you are driving and receive a text it will read it out loud to you. That way you know if it's an emergency and you need to pull over and call someone back right away.)
The Google Sky Map is pretty awesome too! we use that a LOT in summer when we are out camping.
We also activated the Maps and Latitude program. It will let us know where each other is at all times. For instance, if Skylar isn't checking in when she should, we can go to our maps, and press update latitude and it will tell us EXACTLY where she is.
I think they do that (not provide literature) because the droids are kind of a "build it your way" phone. You can make it what you want it to be. They just make sure to put an icon for "phone" so you can make calls
.
Apps I use and like are:
Google maps/navigation awesome!!
Advanced Task Killer...mine even has an auto-kill function that kills running apps after 30minutes.
Adobe Reader
My mobile banking sites
Jorte (personal assistant, makes the calendar look nice like I like it)
Mabilo Ringtones
Barcode Scanner
Google translate
Droid light
Key ring rewards
Magic 8 Ball
State Farm
Tip calculator
Discount calculator
And a lot of Real estate apps...

Re the task killers:
Do some research. I've had my moto droid for a year, and we both started out with task killers. However, developers (including Google) generally don't like them, and they can cause some problems. http://lifehacker.com/5650894/android-task-killers-explained-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
It's not a huge big deal though. I use Watchdog, recommended in that article, instead.
You should also download a power widget (also mentioned in that article) so you can turn off bluetooth, gps, and wifi easily. Those REALLY kill the battery, and it's easy enough to just turn them on when you need them.
Dolphin Browser lets you have tabs like you can in Firefox (though the native browser may have added this recently. I don't know since I've had Dolphin almost the entire time I've had my phone). I also like Shop Savvy. You can scan the barcode of a product and it will tell you what price it is in stores near you (if you have gps on and it can find you) and what price you can get it for online, and it also gives you reviews.
This is actually for the most part not true anymore. There is a type of battery that still has that effect, but most do not anymore.
The biggest battery killer is going to be wifi, bluetooth, and gps.
Good to know--an ex BF told me this about 6 years ago when a phone was cool to have a color screen and texting.
