Need Valentine's Day ideas
J and I normally go to The Dead Fish for dinner for Valentine's Day. This year we're going to keep it at home. So, we're wanting to do a nice dinner together, but I'm not sure where to start in choosing a menu. I don't want it to be super elaborate or time consuming.
I looked on foodnetwork.com, but I'm not into making things like Lobster Parfait.
Any ideas?
Re: Need Valentine's Day ideas
I think what we'll do (though mainly for DH since I don't eat any of this stuff) if we don't go out:
Starter: Bacon wrapped scallops
Main Course: Filet w/ a side (I"m thinking homemade mac 'n' cheese - maybe with lobster pieces in it or with truffle oil) and haricot verts with shallot butter.
Dessert: I'm thinking cheesecake filled chocolate dipped strawberries or something along those lines.
If we hadn't done it for NYE dinner I would have done cheese fondue for our main course and chocolate fondue for dinner.
Here is my menu
Parmesan Herb Noodles (out of a box)
Marinated Chicken (any kind), wrap in reynolds wrap & add some italian dressing, then bake it at 350 for 30 mins
Dessert: Cookies probably, DH loves peanut butter ones (1 cup sugar, 1 cup peanut butter, 1 egg; mix & cook at 350 for 8-11 minutes)
I am very low key when it comes to cooking.
Now THAT sounds super elaborate and time-consuming!
Lolo, maybe you each could pick a few of your very favorite foods and focus on making that the theme for dinner? If you are going to indulge it might as well be on the foods you really love. And if you post them here we can help you pick out recipes that wouldn't be too difficult.
Also, you could always consider your market's prepared foods section, a local bakery etc. for the things you want but don't want to have to make. Not all dishes need to be made in full the day of, so you might be able to get away with something more complex if you can do part of it in advance or leave the baking until the day of.

We're doing cheese fondue for dinner, and probably a home made cake or something similar for dessert.
We don't normall eat fondue so that will be a nice treat for us.
We are low-key too and don't have a lot of extra $ for dinner so I'll probably make something yummy and then brownies or cookies for dessert. Or maybe we'll get fro-yo.
