Furniture stores

We went looking a few days ago and it seems like Mathis Bros own everything!  Where do you go when you're looking for furniture.  I am having trouble thinking beyond Mathis Bros, Thomasville, Drexel Heritage and Bob Mills...I don't do contemporary so Dane Design/Suburban is out.

Also...does a leather sectional scream "family" furniture?  Huh?

Re: Furniture stores

  • Have you considered going to Dallas to market to look at furniture? I feel like they have much better deals than normal furniture stores AND you don't have to deal with the slimey salesmen.

Also, have you tried Ethan Allen?  They are definitely on the pricer side (although you said you were looking at Bernhardt, right?) and you can customize the furniture which is really nice.  It takes awhile for the pieces to come in (we waited three months for our bed), but the service was worth it.

Personally, I love the look of leather but I do not like leather. I am extremely warm natured and leather makes me sweat like a mofo. I had to exchange my leather chair at work for a cloth one because the damn thing made my @ss so sweaty.  True story.

  • Not all sectionals scream family. I found a really nice one in Stillwater at showcase furniture. Chad wants a sectional so I have been looking but still not sure which kind I want. My next set of furniture will be leather or microtones. I want something that cleans easy.

  • When we were looking for our bedroom suite last year we went to several stores--the ones you mentioned plus some I'd never heard of plus some that were WAY out of our price range and some where the styles were too "fancy pants" for us. We ended up getting our furniture at Bob Mills. That's where our living room set is from too.

I'd never had leather furniture until I moved in with DH and I love it. We will never have cloth furniture. It's comfy, easy to clean, and it looks nicer IMO.
  • Go over to Stuarts on Main in Yukon.  Tell Pat that I sent you and that you want to see what Smith Brothers has for you.  They are a bit $$$ but we have a couch and now a rocking chair from them.  Jesse's aunt and uncle got a couch not too long ago too.  We are VERY happy with our pieces and the frame warranty is what finally sold me.

I hadn't thought about furniture market--I didn't even know I could get in to it! Realistically I probably won't make a trip down. I found a sectional at Thomasville that we really like. It's actually large enough to be used where I want it. All of the sectionals at Mathis were too small, Bob Mills' sectionals were hideous (pretty couch/loveseat sets though) Drexel heritage was pricey (the one we liked was over 8k, no thanks) and the thomasville one seemed just right as far as price went. I'm just not sold on it for some reason. I'll definitely check Yukon--thanks Bri. Ethan Allen might be a good stop especially if we can get the size we need. I just hope they're not as ridiculous as Drexel. That sectional was about as plain Jane and uncomfortable as it gets but they were certainly proud of it!

  • We have always bought our furniture at Bob Mills, but we've also never bought a sectional. We bought a new bedroom suite from Galleria last month. Got a pretty good deal. Didn't really scope out the living room selection though. My sister bought furniture from Marquis in Shawnee, but they own Hoffman's too. She says she got a good deal and it seems to be good stuff. Good luck! Hope you find something that you love!
The length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are standing on! Photobucket
What do you mean that's the wrong side? Tastes great to me!
