Poll: Celebrating Valentine's Day

Re: Poll: Celebrating Valentine's Day

  • We're pretty low key. We usually do  a nice dinner, but really b/c it's an excuse to try a new place or try making something new. We usually don't do it on V-day itself, usually the following week.

I usually get DH a card, but no gift. DH usually offers sex as his gift ( I never get a card or a gift, and really the sex isn't different than any other day of the week. :)

  • Meh...we get each other a card and then have dinner at home. With my bday being the day before, DH gets a double whammy of sorts.

  • Sometimes we'll go out for dinner on a totally different night.  The day of we might have some champagne or wine, but usually nothing special.  Lately no gifts b/c we'd rather spend the $ on food or alcohol!

This year I have class on Valentine's day.  How romantic!  lol

  • I voted other. I sometimes get some chocolate for us to share or a card if I see a funny one. DH doesn't usually do anything (which is fine by me). It's not a very big deal at our house - we go all out on birthdays and anniversaries.
  • sometimes we exchange cards and candies.  i usually make DH dinner, which is not the norm; he's the cook.  so, i think he thinks that's pretty special.  he has been known to tell people that valentine's day is the only day of the year that his wife cooks him dinner.
  • I choose yes but we stay at home.  In our area the restaurants get super crowded/booked up on Valentines day so we choose to stay home and cook a meal we don't normally eat. We also eat at the table which we rarely do.  This year is a cheese fondue with some type of home made dessert.

We try to get each other cards and a small gift but it's not a big deal if we don't get them.  We just like to spend the time together.

  • I refuse to go out on the actual day.  DH convinced me to go out once and it didn't go well (cattle call, bad service, nasty food) I usually try to make something special here at home or we go out in the surrounding week.
  • I voted other because it is Hub's birthday so we celebrate that. I usually get him a V-day card along with his birthday stuff and he gets me a card only. We rarely go out for his birthday because of crazy V-day, just make something special at home. We'll be in Vegas seeing LOVE this year though! :)

  • Valentine's Day is cursed for us. In the almost ten years we have been together, any plans we make to go out have fallen through! So, I usually just make a special meal for us at home...

  • We are using the $50 gift card to Elephant Bar that MIL got us for Christmas. We will probably go before Valentine's Day because it will probably be crazy busy.

  • I clicked "small" (card, candy), but really we sort of discuss our expectations the year of, and they're never very much. Sometimes dinner and movie at home, sometimes candy, etc. I might pick up his favorite candy, v-day themed, next time I'm grocery shopping or something, but this year T suggested we buy the baby a little something instead of getting each other anything.

  • Other - we typically just stay in because V-Day is just an excuse for local restaurants to upcharge everything and call it a "special dinner for two." No gifts are expected - but I did get DH a card.

And we'll probably make a dinner from scratch instead of our normal 'heat and serve' dinners from TJs. I found a dessert mix today. We'll make it work.

  • This year we are going all out since our friend's 30th is the 10th were celebrating with her in Napa and decided to just stay up there and have a bday brunch. Usually it's a card and dinner at home with the real table actually nicely set instead of eating in the kitchen eating area with a thought out menu and dessert.
