S/O Wife Chop: Want to do mine soon, opinions?

So here are my issues:
I'm afraid to try something new. I don't think I look good with short hair, but my hair is sooo boring right now. I would like to just go for it.
DH doesn't want me to cut it very much (I'm talkin' like no more than an inch). BUT he never compliments my hair when I do it nice (It's always in a ponytail). I am not saying that "DH said I can't, so I'm not." But I think like any of you, you want to look good for you man. I would be mad if he did something drastic to his hair (which is hard for his hair anyhow.)

Okay I'm rambling. Here is my hair. Do what you want with it :)

*Side note, my hair is usually bone straight, but I like sleeping with my hair in a bun so it gets a little wave in it.

*Double side note, my cat does what I call "spot jacking." I get up for 2 seconds, and she steals my spot, then when I try to move her all of 8 inches, she gets up and leaves. Oh, and ignore the messy....everything haha.

Re: S/O Wife Chop: Want to do mine soon, opinions?

  • A) I have a cat that does the same thing.  And she's always surprised when I want my spot back :P

    B) My GOD you're tiny.  I hate you a little bit.

    C) Cut it!  I mean, it's just hair when it comes down to it.  It'll grow back.  Ross prefers my hair long, but admits that it's cut when short.

(even though I hate her, because she's anti-vaccine, and spreads lies about them)

I'm a big fan of the "dramatic" bang, across the forehead.  And I like it a bit longer in the front, but I think it only works for people with very straight hair (so good for you, bad for the jena).

    E) If you cut at least 8", you can donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths! :)

  • maybe add some long layers? not drastic, but a change still. if I can find a pic of what I mean I'll post it. it looks like your hair is all one length...is it? I'm no expert on hair though!

  • I have pin straight hair too, so there's really not a lot to do with it. I can't even get a curl in mine for long. What about some side bangs and layers??

    Style not color here:

    Ashlee Simpson-Wentz

    Selena Gomez

    Reese Witherspoon

    Olivia Wilde

    and again

I personally lean towards the edgy Ashlee Simspon-Wentz look, but I love the softness of the Olivia Wilde look... it's all about what's comfortable for you.

  • I agree with PP any of those styles would look cute on you.

DH likes my hair long. .but as long as there is something to grab on to during make out or sexy time sessions he is good- so i can have it short-ish lol

I used to hair hair down past my waist.. when i cut it and donated it it was the most freeing exerience ever. I say def do it!!!

  • I am a fan of the bob....love Lauren Conrads (Jenn's D) or the Jennie M's hair.  Depends if you want to go that short.  I love long swept bangs and bobs but my hair is way too thick and curly to do that.

  • I think if you do something similar to Lauren Conrad or Nicole Ritchie you will still have quite a bit of length and a ton more volume to your hair.

My hair is stick straight (like yours), heavy and fine so I cant let it get to long or I lose any shape or volume.  Adding layers will help as well.

And I say go for it. Its hair and it grows back and your husband will love whatever you do with it as soon as the shock wears off.  Big Smile

  • Since your hair is SO long, you could probably cut off enough (10 inches I think) to donate to Locks of Love and still have a lot to work with.  Just a suggestion to make the wife chop charitable!

Noooooooo.  Just say no to Locks of Love.  Or I'll have to get out my soapbox. They're poopy.

  • I'd keep it to a few inches past shoulder-length - it's an adjustment to get rid of any amount of length, and I've found that it's hard to give up the ability to put it into a pony tail for stuff like going to the gym or getting it out of the way quickly.

My hair is pretty fine and thin, so my stylist said to avoid doing too much in layers when my hair is past the shoulders, as it makes it look thinner. That said, when I'm cutting my hair (above the shoulder) in a few weeks he said we can play with layers a lot to give it texture, depth, and more movement.

Is your hair thicker than mine? With a standard ponytail band, you know the ones that are ~2 inches wide, I can wrap it easily 3-4 times around my hair.  If it is, I'd consider having some subtle layers done from 3 inches below the jawline through the ends of your hair.  If your hair is like mine I'd do layers from top of shoulder to ends.

  • If you're not wanting to lose a lot of length, I think some long layers and longer bangs that you can wear straight across or pushed to the side would do wonders to change up your look.

    Don't forget to post pics!!

  • So I am not sure what you are looking for, but this is what I was thinking.

  • I did a big chop when I was a freshman in college and found that I hated short hair. For me, it was a lie that short hair is easier. My hair is very thick and wavy and it took a ton of work to make it look nice. That being said, your hair would look great in any of the afore mentioned styles and the fact that it is naturally straight should make it easier to keep looking nice. I definitely would suggest getting it cut in a deliberate style with layers that frame your face with maybe some shorter side bangs.

If you aren't sure you want short hair I would recommend trying shoulder length first and then take off more later if you decide you want to try shorter.

  • I like the Nicole Ritchie cut or the Olivia Wilde best. Both would look good on you.

  • Thanks everyone!

See, I love those styles on other girls, but on me, hair that short looks weird - I think it's because I have broad shoulders?

What about the color? Keep it blonde?

    I'm so predictable :P

  • Brooke,

I think you could go right under the collarbone, with longer layers and the bangs *ala lauren conrad pic above* Definitely side bangs :)

I did the chin bob when we got home...my hair was so dead i hadnt touched it in months (stylist wouldnt let me....she was like "i need every inch you can give me for wedding day!) now i hate it.....its growing out....but if i dont do anything with it, it looks awful...which usually means over 10 mins which I really dont have....

Looking for Lauren Conrad length then I'll have her restyle it....it needs it now, but I dont want to lose what I've grown in 3 months :)

I also think if you wanted to go darker you could, with some highlights but do the cut first, then see if you want to change color :)
