Okay, I have some chicken wings... does anyone have a great wing recipe they want to share?
What are you planning on having to celebrate the big game this weekend?
Re: Superbowl Food?
We're having a pot of green chile stew with ribs (cooked in the stew), various chips & dips. I need to make something gluten free (maybe with shrimp?) for my friend, and maybe deviled eggs. I need to look at more recipes today.
I really want to make these: http://picky-palate.com/2011/01/31/baked-spinach-dip-mini-bread-bowls/
And beer, of course.
We're having just a few people over, so we don't need tons of food.
It's my dad's birthday, so we are doing the 1st half at our friends that we go to every year, and then my dad's for the rest of the day.
We're having texas bbq at one, and nachos at the other. And beer, of course
First, a vent...I'm not a big football fan to begin with (sorry), but I do get the enthusiasm behind Super Bowl. However, because it is on a Sunday night and next week is one of my busiest school week's of the year, I was not planning on doing anything. Then DH decided to throw together a small Super Bowl party. Okay, fine, I can do that...it is just a couple of couples coming over. THEN DH wakes up today sick with a chest cold and is completely useless....lying on the couch moaning (he is a bad sick person)...which means now I am doing all the cleaning, shopping, and cooking by myself for a stupid get together that I didn't want in the first place.

That said, I use McCormick's dry seasoning for chicken wings and it comes out pretty tasty.
My menu for tomorrow:
-chili (big pot so I have lunch for the week too)
-nachos
-wings
-pizza
-cocktail weenies
-chips and french onion dip
-beer

I just got a wing recipe yesterday (I'm on an email list for America's Test Kitchen, which if you haven't heard of it, they are amazing at perfecting recipes), so I haven't tried it, but totally trust the source. Here it is if you want to try it out:
1 (3-inch) piece fresh ginger (peeled and chopped), 4 garlic cloves (peeled), ? cup packed dark brown sugar, ? cup soy sauce, ? tsp cayenne pepper, 4 pounds chicken wings (halved at joint and wingtips removed), ? cup water, ? cup tomato paste
MAKE RUB: Pulse ginger, garlic, ? cup sugar, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and ? teaspoon cayenne in food processor until finely ground. Add mixture to slow cooker insert. Add chicken and toss until combined.
COOK AND COOL: Cover and cook on low until fat renders and chicken is tender, 3 to 4 hours. Using slotted spoon, remove wings from slow cooker and transfer to clean large bowl (discard liquid in slow cooker). Let wings cool 20 minutes (or cool briefly and refrigerate up to 24 hours).
SAUCE AND BROIL: Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat broiler. Set wire rack inside rimmed baking sheet and spray rack with baking spray. Whisk water, tomato paste, remaining sugar, remaining soy sauce, and remaining cayenne in bowl. Add half of sauce to bowl with cooled wings and toss gently to coat. Arrange wings, skin side up, on prepared rack. Broil until wings are lightly charred and crisp around edges, 10 to 15 minutes. Flip wings, brush with remaining sauce, and continue to broil until well caramelized, about 3 minutes. Serve.

And here's the link (don't know if you have to be signed up to use it, but I can only see things for about a week, otherwise you have to pay a membership. Weird, I know): http://www.cookscountry.com/recipe.asp?recipeids=5812&bdc=69744&Extcode=L1BN1AA00
Haven't decided what I'm doing tomorrow, I do have some friends hosting a party though so I might do that.

I don't have a slow cooker... I wonder if this could be done in my le crueset in the oven at low heat...

I imagine it could. Maybe just google to see if people have tried translating recipes between oven and slow cooker? Also, they talk about throwing out the liquid, but I'm wondering if there's something I could do with it - maybe just boil it on the stove for a while to reduce it a ton. Anyway, I want an excuse to try this recipe. I posted another recipe from them in ringy's post that is really good in you want some chocolate

We're not huge football fans and the game comes on pretty late our way, so no plans on watching it.
I haven't tried any of these, but I saw this post on a blog I follow - might have some good ideas for you.
