Customer Service Annoyance: Cell Phones
I thought I would vent here, as this is happening more and more and hope that no one here does it...
...Please please please do not talk on your cell phone when I'm trying to help you with something. It's very rude to not give someone the time of day because your friend had to find out what you got at the mall. You need to say, "Let me call you back in a few minutes." Then tell me what you need. Do not assume that I know what you want, or point at what you want. Talk to me like a human being.
I've gone back and forth between talking really loudly to these people, to simply ignoring them altogether...whichever mood I'm in.
Okay, vent over. I'm sure some other ladies can agree with me
Re: Customer Service Annoyance: Cell Phones
I agree too. 100% annoying. I always tell people I will call them back or two wait a few mins while I finish. It is my biggest pet peeve ever!!!
This has happened me twice, but I was actually the customer on the phone
Once at the dry cleaners, and once at the bookstore (!!) I felt like such an idiot when I "came to" and realized what I was doing. I just got so stuck in the conversation, but trying to finish my errands, but then having a mini panic attack when I realized what I was doing/just done.
I damn near walked back in to the dry cleaners to apologize, I felt so terrible.
I hung up my phone immediately in the bookstore and ran out of there so fast, head down, trying not to look at anyone in the eyes. so embarrassed.
lol I understand getting sucked into the conversation, and I can usually sense the difference. A vast majority of the time, it's random nonsense.
At least you realized it, though
I used to work as a cashier and I hated when people would talk on their phone while I was checking them out. I try not to do it now because I know how awful it is to do that. I also have that pet peeve when going out with friends or even my husband. If I am with you and spending time with you then do not pick up your cell to talk to other people...even texts. That is so frustrating!
So guilty of doing this. I try to use the "self-checkout" when I am on my phone or get off the phone but sometimes it is hard to cut off or tell the person on the other line that you will call them back (especially my mom or grandma).
Sorry all you wonderful customer service ladies out there!
When I was working as a merchandiser (stocking shelves and what not) if a customer tried that I just walked away. Bitchy of me right? But frankly they can't NEED the product bad enough if all they do is point and carry on about how "Jenny is so totally not cuter than her"
Just from retail experience I put my phone down while I check out. And if I'm on the phone while at a store I'll wait till I'm off it before I bother an employee for something.
One more of many arguments for home-based self employment! (DISCLAIMER: I realize it's not for everyone, and I'm by no means criticizing anyone for working outside the home.)
When I was working in face-to-face customer service, I found that looking over the rude person's head and serving the customer behind them seemed to be pretty effective at curing the "I'm so important that I can't stop talking on my phone" syndrome.
Ugh. I used to sell cell phones. And lack of etiquette is my biggest pet peeve. I often find something else to do if someone won't put down the phone for a few seconds.
Side note: I even had our minister ask that all phones be silenced or turned off at the wedding. He thought I was joking when I asked.
