Phil has some friends coming to town next week who really want to go for some great Dim Sum... any restaurant recommendations?
Re: *Ringy*
The best by far is Lai Wah Heen at Metropolitan Hotel. Their traditional stuff is perfectly done, and their more creative items are really great. It's pricey though. V and I can spend $50-$60 between the two of us.
We actually just went to Lai Wah Heen's little brother, Lai Toh Heen, yesterday because we had a Groupon. It's on Mount Pleasant just south of Eglinton. It's also very good and they actually have a $20 Winterlicious menu. I think it's similarly priced. Both LWH and LTH range from $4-9/dish.
One step down from that is Crown Princess, the newish place just next to my building, on Bay. Don't order their goose liver shiu mai though. It's unnecessarily expensive for what it is. But we've liked most other dishes, and they also have some slightly less traditional stuff which is quite tasty. Their dishes are $3/4/5/6 each.
At the other end of the spectrum in price, there's Rol San on Spadina north of Dundas. It's well priced and the standard dishes are pretty decent, and they pump out stuff in high volumes. Very busy on weekends, so go before noon or be prepared to wait a little bit... but they do move groups very quickly. I used to prefer Bright Pearl across the street (the place with the big orange storefront) but I heard that it's since closed.
Are you guys willing to drive uptown? These are downtown places but there are also great places in Markham & Richmond Hill. They're generally less creative but more true to the traditional dishes, as they serve a rather discerning audience.
