comforter care - WWYD?

I have a comforter that has instructions for dry clean only.  I'm tempted to just go ahead try and wash it in my washer.  I have a front loader with a gentle cycle, would you risk it?

Re: comforter care - WWYD?

  • Having accidentally ruined way too many dry-clean only pieces of clothing in the washing machine...no, I would not risk it.  Especially if it's a down comforter.
  • I'm in the club of ruining a bunch of things that way, too. I get annoyed with dealing with the dry cleaner all the time, but comforters get taken twice a year for a refresh. It's usually not too expensive, and hopefully you have another one to use while this one is gone. Sorry, but I wouldn't risk it either.

  • Thanks for the input.  I was leaning towards taking it in but wasn't sure if anyone had been successful washing their own.  Sounds like no!

  • I have a large front load and was certain I could do it myself. Not so much. I ended up taking it in anyways so the seamstress at the drycleaners could fix the giant rip in it :(

  • I guess I'll drop it off at the drycleaners sometime this week!
