All right. Tell me what you think about Uggs.

I might succumb to this trend in 6 months or so....I'm in the researching/planning stage right now. :) So, I pretty much hated Uggs when I first saw them, but with this Bailey Button stuff they've got going on, even I think they're getting kind of cute. So, if you've got them...

1. What style? What do you like and what don't you like? Would you get that style again?

2. I wear a size 6.5. I hear that you have to size down, and I THINK a 6 would throw me into the kids' sizes, which would be cheaper. Has anyone done this?

3. Do you think they're over-rated? Not worth $150? What's a good knockoff brand, if you think so?

    1. What style? What do you like and what don't you like? Would you get that style again?  I have a pair of the regular black ones, a pair of brown paisley ones, and a "spring" pair that is pink eyelet.

    2. I wear a size 6.5. I hear that you have to size down, and I THINK a 6 would throw me into the kids' sizes, which would be cheaper. Has anyone done this?  With the black and paisley "regular" ones, yes, I bought a size smaller. I had to buy my true size for the spring pair which is unusual.

    3. Do you think they're over-rated? Not worth $150? What's a good knockoff brand, if you think so?   Not over-rated. I bought a fake pair of uggs that fell apart after having them only two months.  I have had all three pairs for longer than three years and I am abusive to them - wear them in the rain, snow, etc etc.  They are super warm and look perfect.  Also, one of my coworkers kept buying her daughter the fake pairs from Justice and finally bought a real pair for xmas because the fake ones kept falling apart.  I think they are really comfy - granted, they aren't that cute but my feet are warm and that is all I care about!

  • 1. What style? What do you like and what don't you like? Would you get that style again? I have the Classic Cardy ones. Soooo comfy--basically sweaters on my feet. However, since that kind isn't waterproof, I don't know that I would do them again. I would gladly do another style again though! I like the tall ones a lot.

    2. I wear a size 6.5. I hear that you have to size down, and I THINK a 6 would throw me into the kids' sizes, which would be cheaper. Has anyone done this? Well, I got shafted because the ones in my regular size are just a little bit big, and a size down was just a little bit small. So I went with my regular size and just deal with it. But I'm glad I tried them on rather than just assuming I needed to size down.

    3. Do you think they're over-rated? Not worth $150? What's a good knockoff brand, if you think so? I think they're the best out there that are in that style. I have a really hard time spending that kind of money, but I think every 2-3 years it's totally worth it. Stripes is right: I wore mine pretty much every day last winter and tromped through everything, and even though they aren't technically waterproof they have held up incredibly well. I think they'll easily last another 2-3 years, and I've already had them for a year and a half.

    3. Do you think they're over-rated? Not worth $150? What's a good knockoff brand, if you think so? I think theyre worth it so far.

  • Honest answer? I'm too old for them. But I'm 31. If you're younger, you may be in good shape :)

See, and there's my other wonder about them. I'm exactly your age.

  • I have then short classic UGGS and LOVE them! They are so worth the $150! I have friends who have the knock-offs and they just don't seem to hold up like the UGGS.

For the record my mom is in her late 50's and has a pair so I do NOT believe age has anything to do with it. If you want them buy them-I can promise you won't regret it.

You are only as old as you feel. I am 32.  I was told that after 30 I could no longer wear pigtails, anything with hello kitty and Uggs. WRONG.

True, but you also don't look 32 (not that you do, amanjay, just to be clear...I haven't seen you, but I bet you don't either. :) ). Anyway though, I had this coworker a long time ago who was almost 40 and insisted on dressing like she was 21. She looked her age, and her too-young stuff just looked silly on her. I don't want to be doing that, you know?

Hmm. I wasn't ready to buy for awhile anyway, but clearly I still need to think about this for awhile. :)

  • I don't know that it's the Uggs per se or the clothes that I see most people wearing with Uggs that feels too young for me. My personal fashion rule is that if it's really popular among my 18 year old freshmen, I don't feel comfortable wearing it. I wouldn't judge other people who do, but I know I'll feel uncomfortable (which would make me look too old because I'd look uncomfortable if that makes sense.)
  • I also think it depends on how you wear them. My MIL wears them with skirts to the knee and tights and I think she looks cute.  I definitely DO NOT wear them to work - I wear them on the weekends, after work, or um, sometimes to bed.  Okay, a lot of times to bed.  I think they look really cute with skinny jeans and given that I do not wear jeans, I often wear them with my little weekend velour outfits. I think you can make them age appropriate.

Also, bluekid, you certainly do not look as if you are in your 30s!!

  • I have a pair of Bear Paw brand that look like the Classic Cardy Uggs.  I got them for Christmas last year and wear them about every other day in the winter.  They are insanely comfortable and are showing no signs of falling apart.  They are a fair amount cheaper than the Uggs (I think they usually run about $50-$75).

I will be 30 in July and have no intention of giving them up any time soon.  Admittedly, though, I have a very young style, and people frequently think I am younger than I am.  I am with stripes, though - I have no intention of giving up things that I like just because someone else thinks I am too old to wear them.  I wear them with skinny jeans or tights and skirts/dresses.

  • Now, I think if you sport the Uggs with low rise jeans so tight you have a camel toe and wear a sweater that doesn't cover your stomach - that is where there is an issue.  But you can definitely wear them with skinny jeans that fit properly and a longer sweater with a cute thick belt or something.

Oh my word, can you imagine? But here's another caveat I just thought of...I don't like skinny jeans, either. I just won't do them. I'm a bootcut jeans purist.

I just may not be a good Uggs match, the more I think about this.

Well, I don't do jeans at all and I definitely do not do skinny jeans. I have quite a few pairs of boot cut jeans and when I have nothing else to wear, I will wear them over my Uggs (not tucked in) or french roll them so I can tuck them in. Clearly, I am not concerned with how I look, just that my feet are warm. I am very warm natured but for some reason my feet are always freezing.

I truly think this is a purchase you will not regret.

  • I totally thought I responded to this earlier, but I don't see it, so I'll try again.

After the past few days on snow and ickiness, I'm thinking of getting a pair of the thicker-soled waterproof ones. They would be ulitilitarian for me, not a fashion statement. I think you're fine wearing them, as long as you don't pair them with shorts, or mini-skirts or anything ridiculous.

I have a pair of Bear Paws also. They are a dark brown and they look exactly like Uggs. Very comfy. I got them back when I was pg because I couldn't bend over to tie my shoes. So I've had them for 2 years and they have held up great. I even more them all last week.

Also I know Oklagirl said this in her post above. But the really cute rainboots works great for this type of weather. Saturday we went to the mall and Dillards had their's on sale for $26. They were really cute!

I wore my cheap rainboots in the snow, and while they were dry, my feet were effing FREEZING. That's why I'm looking for something warm and waterproof.

  • 1. I have the the ultimate toggle style 5250 in chestnut - which they don't make anymore, so i've had mine for a very long time. I love mine and would get them again.

     2. I wear a size 10 and the 10's fit me perfectly. Although, I think you can get into the kid sizes around the size 6's. I have a SIL around that size and buys kids, which are cheaper and fit her better.

     3. I think they are not over-rated. Mine have lasted for at least 5-6 years(?) and were worth every penny. I have a friend that kept buying something other than Uggs, and ended up spending more in the long run replacing the cheaper ones instead of just getting the more expensive ones up front. I'm almost 30 and wear mine every chance I get. I don't wear them because of fashion, I wear them because they are comfortable and keep my feet warm. I don't have any skinny jeans, but if the weather is bad i'll tuck the jeans inside the boot so the bottom of my jeans don't get wet. But usually I just wear my jeans over my boots.
