I applied for an externship with a local hospital group. It's a 9 week externship program. It's 30 hours per week during my last semester of school, which would be rough, but they hire their externs upon graduation.
I really really really want it. It's $17 hourly. I know I'm qualified. I have an awesome reference letter from a clinical instructor that I submitted with my application. Its on a general med/surg floor, which is what I'm doing now at school and I LOVE it. I'd work directly under the supervision of a nurse. They have a pretty large externship program, the hospital as 6 locations and they're hiring for all locations.
The only thing that would disqualify me is the fact that I'm in an accelerated program. The program is meant for traditional students with summers off, which I don't have. But they said the program is still open to us (it was posted on our nursing program's website) and we were welcome to apply. I don't think anyone else in my program did apply (almost everybody already has a job currently or a job lined up and it says on the application not to apply if you can't/won't commit to working there upon graduation).
I find out February 25th if I'm even a candidate. If so, I have a group interview. If I pass through that session then I have a manager phone interview. I will find out for sure by April 25th.
I need vibes, thoughts, prayers, whatever you can spare!
