So, DH & I walked into a...
...pet store and made the mistake of playing with one of the puppies--a 2-month-old female puggle. Aahhh!!! WHY did we do that to ourselves? She was so adorable!
So, my questions are: Do you have a dog? What kind is it (including size)? What is your living situation (apt., house, etc)? Do you and DH work full-time outside of the home? Any thoughts on a puggle?
"You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"
Re: So, DH & I walked into a...
Yes, I have two dogs. They are both Boston Terriers and weigh just over 25 pounds each (they are big for their breed.) We live in a single family home with a fenced yard. My H works outside the home, I stay at home.
My thoughts on a puggle: I don't mean to be rude but I would never under any circumstances buy a puppy from a pet store. There are so many dogs out there in shelters and rescues that need homes. I would check out www.petfinder.com or any of your local Humane Society, SPCA or county animal services first. The dogs there are cute too! Many shelters have pure bred dogs and you can also search for a specific breed rescue group.
AAH pet stores are such a catch 22! We go to the one on Dale Mabry once a month or so and pet and play with them. It always makes me sad to leave but the benefits of how much fun they are to play with makes it worth it to me.
I will never buy a puppy store puppy though because of all I've learned about puppy mills, and because I have friends who are actively involved with the Humane Society I also get to see all the awesome dogs (and sometimes puppies) that need happy homes. But the stores are still fun to go to to play.
I have 2 pekingese. One is a puppy store dog that SIL got as a gift 9 years ago and then passed off to us about 4 years ago because her boyfriend got a boxer. He is sweet but mean to strangers and I think he is getting hip dysplasia even though he is "purebread" and we have all his lineage paperwork and he's not supposed to have inherited any of those issues. The other one is the son of the first one. SIL bread 2 puppy store pekes and made a liter, then she gave one to DH for a gift when it was 8 weeks. That peke is the LIGHT of my LIFE. Best breed ever! I used to live in an apt on the 3rd floor and there was enough room for the small dogs to play freely and get all the exercise they need. I walk them to pee but the smoosh nose breeds (pugs included) cannot tolerate heat well so they don't like to be outside in the summer. Apt life is fine for them. Now I have a house and a yard and they do love to be out back chasing squirrels and lizards, even in the heat, but I think it's because my yard is entirely shaded by giant oaks. H and I work opposite schedules a lot so they are not alone too often, except for 13-14 hours on Wed and there is pee on the floor but who can blame the poor things?
But they have each other to play with. I think it's great to have 2.
I have a friend with a Puggle and I really wanted a pug before I met H and inherited the Pekingese. I did a lot of research on the pug breed and puggles are the same. The are awesome and sweet, and have 2 faults for me. They shed a lot. And they are major over eaters. I "free feed" my dogs. I fill their bowls with one cup each in the morning and when it's empth I fill it with another cup each and they graze freely on it. Pugs will devour every thing that you give them, therefore they need to be fed on a schedule. I have a strange schedule so that doesn't work for me. I would have a fat pug and a starving pekingese.
Wow, that was long. I could go on but I should stop
We have two dogs right now, it was one and my sister unofficially gave us full custody of her dog who is just as adorable as our Shadow boy. So, either way I'm claiming him as ours.
Shadow is a Lasa Apso mix with Cocker Spaniel and Mouschkie (my niece named him- inspired by Mishca Mouscha Mickey Mouse lol) is a Lasa Apso and Shi Tzu Mix
We own a house
We both work full time but DH works 3 days 12hours a day so he spends a lot of time at home with them. (I just realized he will be doing the same thing for when we have kids heheh)
I'm not familiar with puggle breed and behaviors sorry. But doggs are just adorable!
I have a Maltese, he is 7lbs. We live in a house now but when we first got him we lived in a apt. He is pad trained but will go outside when we take him. I'm a SAHM so I'm at home all day.
We have 2 dogs: a 14 year old shih tzu and a 7 year old jack russel/beagle mix. We live in a single family home, dh works full-time, and I'm in grad school full-time. We love our dogs and couldn't imagine life without them. That said, puppies are hard work to train and at this point I wouldn't want to do that (a baby is enough!). I would adopt a young dog from a shelter that is already housebroken. Plus, I'm a huge advocate of shelters.
I think puggles are adorable! Good luck with whatever you decide.
I have dogs, both rescues. I cannot say enough good things about rescue associations and humane societies; and enough BAD things about pet stores, backyard breeders and puppy mills. Please help a pup in need.

I personally am against buying puppies at a pet store. However, I am not going to tell you what you should or shouldn't do. Puppies from pet stores get adopted because people have hearts and feel so sorry for them being locked in those little cages (I have almost caved several times). Please remember that unless the pet store is willing to provide the breeder information to you, they are 99% of the time coming from a puppy mill and may end up having serious health problems.
I have 3 purebred dogs, 1 Chocolate Lab, and 2 Min Pins. All 3 have been bought from "backyard breeders". Only 1 of our dogs has a "health" problem but my contract stated that I could take him back within 6mos of a diagnosis.... Who in their right mind would return their puppy for a new one? A few weeks after purchasing/ adopting our Male min pin, I noticed that he had a cataract in his right eye, which was confirmed by his vet. I contacted the breeder to let her know, but told her that I had no intentions on returning him. I do not regret purchasing any of my dogs. We did look into rescues for our 2nd min pin but couldn't find one that fit our lifestyle. Some people will tell you to look into "reputable" breeders with AKC. ANYONE can pay to be a registered breeder with AKC. I know, because AKC contacted me when we had an accidental litter about becoming a registered breeder.
I would say to look at rescues and shelters first. If you can not find your "dream" dog, don't feel bad about looking into other options. If you decide to go with a local breeder, just be sure that they are only breeding 1 breed of dogs and only have 1 or 2 litters a year.

I have a Puggle!!! Her name is Lily, and we adopted her from a rescue. I saw her on Petfinder.com and fell in love. She is the cutest dog in the world, but I am biased.
My husband and I both work full-time outside of the home. I was still in law school when we got her so my schedule was more flexible for house training etc. Owning a a dog is a big commitment. We need to come right home after work to let her out, etc. I would not change it for the world because she brings me so much happiness.Just keep in mind that owning a dog somewhat limits your freedom and independence. We take her to daycare once in awhile if we know that we have something to do after work.
As far as the "breed," I can't speak for all puggles, but I can tell you about mine. She is the friendliest dog I've ever met. She loves people and dogs. She does not play favorites. She is very energetic and needs a pretty good amount of exercise. She loves to snuggle with you on the couch. In my opinion, she is more stubborn than other breeds and isn't the most obedient dog (which may be a Beagle trait because my Beagle was also stubborn). She cannot be let off her leash because she is impossible to catch.
Also, she is only 2, but she has cataracts and will need to have cataract surgery this year. I don't know if this common in Puggles, but I wanted to give you a heads up.
We also have 2 dogs. They are both Bichons they weigh about 15 lbs. We got the first one 4 yrs ago, bichons are hypoallergenic which we needed as DS has asthma. They do not shed, but require brushing and grooming. We just groom ours. They are stubborn and finally got the 4 yr old to sit last night with a marshmellow. We are still working on house breaking with the 9 mth old who we have had for 3 mths. They are known to be hard to house break.
Those are the negatives now the positive, they are the most loveable little things. They have these crazy expression that make you crack up. Thety love to cuddle one minute and play the next. They love everyone that walks thru are door and are very good about staying with other people. They love to go to grandmas (but get car sick). We wouldnt trade them for the world, they make us laugh everyday and are perfect for our family! Previously to buying our home we owned the older one and he did perfectly fine in an apartment we just played with him when we got home, they do have alot of energy. Now we have the puppy and they just love to play together.
We have two dogs, a boy beagle (almost 5 years old) and a girl shiba inu (3 years old). They're both medium sized dogs. The beagle is about 30lbs and the shiba is about 23lbs. We live in a house with a large fenced backyard, which is perfect for the dogs. DH and I both work full-time out of the house, so our dogs are crate trained for now. Since they're getting older, we may start letting them out during the day now that most of their mischevious puppy chewing episodes are done. Both breeds are wonderful. Beagles are known for being loud and fat, but luckily ours is pretty quite unless the doorbell rings and he isn't really a fan of dog food, so he never pigs out. Our shiba is her own little personality and, as DH puts it, if she didn't shed so much she'd be the perfect dog.
