vacuum suggestions (non dyson)

My vacuum has been dying for some time.  While I would love a dyson DH doesnt think it is needed.  So if you had to get a new vacuum and you couldnt get a dyson what vacuum would you get?

Re: vacuum suggestions (non dyson)

  • Do you have pets?  What types of flooring do you have in your home?  That can make a difference with the recs that you get.

If you have pets, next to the Dyson, I would recommend the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser.  Bissell, overall, is a solid brand to go with and their price point is pretty good....they're a great quality and definitely do the trick.  If I didn't have my Dyson, I would go with a Bissell!

  • We have one minimally shedding dog and all carpet. We have a Bissell Healthy Home that is over 2 years old and we've had good luck with it. The attachments are nice (esp for furniture and carpeted stairs), and the only con is that it's heavy. It came from Target for $200ish bucks I think.

  • I have no animals (unless you count the toddlers).  I have the Twins, another baby is baking, and a husband.  The whole house is carpet

  • Honestly - I spent $500 on a Dyson and although I like it, I don't LOVE it... I got a Bissell at Wal-Mart for $23 on Black Friday and I LOVE it! It picks up so much better, etc.

My mom just bought an Oreck and she really likes it!

  • I have an older model Dyson and it's my workout for the day since it's so heavy. I also have a newer Oreck and LOVE that. It is super light, great suction, and can do my tile and carpet floors. The only thing I don't like is there's no handheld attachments and it's not bagless. However, it's so light that I use it to vacuum my steps. See if there's an Oreck store near you and go try it out.

  • We bought a Simplicity vacuum last summer. We discovered Simplicity vacuums when we cleaned the church while looking for work.  Their vacuum was an older model Simplicity and we were quite impressed. It picked up EVERYTHING except bobby-pins and you find all kinds of things when cleaning a more public building, especially when it's being used by 4 or more different groups of people who have 1-2 meeting apiece per week.
  • My DH is in LOVE with his Dyson.  He got a refurbished one on woot.com for relatively cheap.  Growing up my family always had a Kenmore canister vac.  I've never used anything besides these two, but I always liked the Kenmore.  Good suction power and not as heavy to push as the Dyson is.  Downfall to our Kenmore was it was bagged.
  • We got an Oreck, and we love it. We got one that came with a separate hand vac for detailed work since the upright doesn't use attachments.
