AW: Decorated our bedroom

Mark doesn't have have much fashion/decorating sense and I have even less.  So, much of our house has been left bland and boring.  I was hestiant to decorate at all since we thought we would be moving last year.  That hasn't worked out so I've decided I should decorate and make it feel more roomy.

We didn't do much, but changed out the bedding (to a colour that ISN'T nearly identical to the walls) and put up a few things but I wanted to AW my baby steps!

Next, I would love new bedroom furniture - we are both just using what we brought from living at home - but we currently have a queen bed and we're hoping to get a king when we move so we're holding off on furniture for now.

  • I love the comforter and mirror over the bed. That color green is so soothing for a bedroom. Also, if you really want a change in furniture, try just painting what you have. It can definitely spruce up a room for cheap.

  • Hmm...painting the furniture?  That never occured to me!

As you can see, my dresser is this awful orange wood.  Do you have to strip it first?  I have no idea how to do this but now I'm intrigued.

  • The new bedding looks great! Also agree that you could try painting your existing furniture. The tall dresser looks like a sturdy piece from the pic, can't really tell with the shorter dresser. A coat of white or cream paint would really spruce them up and help them coordinate with those wall shelves.

    Great job!

  • I like the color of the new comforter and agree that painting the furniture white to match the shelves/door would look really nice.
  • I agree. I think you should try to paint the furniture white.  It would look really nice, and would be less expensive!

  • I love the changes you've made! If you want to paint your furniture, all you need is a coat of Kilz primer first, and then paint away!

I have to admit I've never done it before, but I think that sanding and priming will do the trick. A lot of the girls on the D&R have experience refinishing furniture, you could ask there, or google instructions.

  • It's amazing what a little color and accents can do for a room.

I agree the dressers in white would look great and pull the room together. If they're not in rough shape and don't have rough spots, I would use Kilz like Mandee suggested and just paint. If they've got rough spots you might need to sand just those spots to even them out.
