I think I have a cold... Any tips to feel better?

I'm miserable. I felt fine Saturday, but yesterday I woke up with a super sore throat, lots of drainage, and my nose will not stop dripping. My ears are crackling now when I swallow too. I've tried sudafed and benedryl as well as zyrtec and afrin. Any other ideas of what to do? Does that even sound like a cold or more like allergies? Or does it matter?

Re: I think I have a cold... Any tips to feel better?

  • With those symptoms, it could really be either.  Is the zyrtec helping at all?  If it is I would probably lean more toward it it allergies.  If not probably cold.  When I have a cold, my go to's are sudafed (the kind you have to get behind the pharmacy counter, this will really only help if you are stuffy though) and throat lozenges.  Ibuprofen if you are feeling achy at all.  Hope you get to feeling better soon!

  • Colds/Allergies are the worst. They're annoying because they're isnt much you can do. You've already tried everything I would have tried. I hope you feel better soon.
  • My DH is miserable with allergies right now.  I have no suggestions on how to make you feel better - but I hope it's short lived!

  • Nothing I've tried even seems to touch it! That's why I'm thinking cold versus allergies. Plus, my ears and throat aren't itching, like they tend to with allergies. Uggg... I feel so icky!
  • I like hot tea and gargling with hot salt water to make my throat feel better. I also like to take tylenol to ease the aches in my face. :)

  • Ive had horrible sinus headaches and pressure, itchy eyes, running nose etc etc.. Ive been taking Mucinex D to help dry out my sinuses and Benadryl for the allergy symptoms. They have done wonders and Ive been on cloud 9 for days Stick out tongue
