Sleep update and nap question

So last Wednesday we started sleep training Liam.  We had planned to wait until this past weekend but decided to just go for it that night.  We did CIO (going in to sooth him in timed intervals) and it was rough. The first night he cried for 45 minutes when we first put him down (unswaddled) and then he would fall asleep for a half hour or so wake up cry then fall asleep for 15-20 minutes wake up and cry this went on for 4 hours.  It sucked.  But finally around midnight I nursed him and put him back in his pack and play and he put himself to sleep and slept until 6:30!  Every night since has been better and better.  He still wakes sometimes and cries but I just leave him or give him his paci.  Around 1 if he wakes I nurse him and then around 4ish as well.  I want to cut one of those feedings out eventually.  Last night he went down at 6:30 woke at 1 to nurse and then woke up at 5:30 and was up for the day...which kinda sucked since it was so early but I will take that over getting up every hour!!!

Naps are kind of all over the place, he doesn't really have a schedule, I need to work on this. So moms of 6ish month olds what is your babies nap schedule like? how many naps do your babies take a day and how long are they?  How many hours are they usually awake between naps?

Re: Sleep update and nap question

  • I was thinking about you this past weekend!  It sounds like things are going really well!   That's awesome!  Hope it continues.  :)   At 6 months, Nolan was still taking 3 naps a day, but he also gets up later and goes to bed a little later.  And his naps weren't always long ones.  He'd wake up around 8, take a nap at 10:30/11.   Usually up within 30-45 minutes.  Then another nap around 2 about 30-45 minutes.  Then a last nap at around 5/5:30.  He was going to bed around 8.  That was all before we started Ferber, too.   He finally started to consolidate his naps around 7 1/2 months after we had started the Ferber process.   Now he's down to 2 naps a day and they're much longer naps.

    Good luck!

  • I don't know the answer, but I'm glad things are going better!
  • Wow I'm so glad he's doing better!  As for naps, Jake was never a great napper but at that age I stuck to a pretty set schedule which was nap #1 around 10 am and #2 around 2 pm (give or take 1/2 hour for each).  Mind you, his naps were all over the board and lasted anywhere from 15-60 mins.

  • yay for more sleep!  It's amazing how quickly we forget nap/sleep times.   I can't recall what Abby was doing at 5 months.  :-(  I'm so happy it's getting better for you!

6 months is about when Lily went from 3 to 2 naps. She used to get up around 6-6:30 and nap at 9, 12, and 4, for about 45 minutes per nap. Now she naps around 9:30/10:00 and 2:00 and sleeps about an hour or 1-1/2 hours.

  • Go Liam! At 6 months, and still now ... Caroline took 3 naps a day, sometimes just 2. Wakes up at 7, goes down for a nap around 8:30 and sleeps about 1.5 hours on avg, stays awake for about 1.5-2 hrs and goes down for an hour nap, repeat that and then she goes to be around 7-7:30. Since about 3 months she has done 12 hr stints overnight and during the day can only stay up for 1.5-2 hrs unless we're out and about like yesterday where she was up for 6 hrs straight and made up for it big time today!
