Anyone here a Radiologic Tech?
I'm currently a surgical tech and am in need of a change. I've tossed around nursing and dental hygiene but I'm not sure.
I recently looked into the radiologic tech program and besides the Physics class I could pretty much walk right into the program ( I need more for the other two degrees)
Just basically wondering if you have this as your degree/job, what are your pros and cons ( I know this will vary with everyone)
What kind of hours do you work?
Do you work in a hospital or clinic?
Etc. etc.
Thanks so much for answering!

Re: Anyone here a Radiologic Tech?
Have a look at the medical "help wanted" ads on line and in your local paper -- see who is hiring. In oither words, see what the demands are for rad techs in your locale.
Do that before you begin to think about going back to school.
OUr area's pretty dry for allied health professional jobs.
At our community college our Dental Hygiene program has been on a 4 year wait for the last 10 years! We have now implemented an entrance test specifically for this program. Graduates normally work between 2 dentists because they can't find one full time position. Do your research for sure! Nursing seems to always have a need in the job market! Good luck!
I wouldn't recommend it. I work in Radiology and the entire market is SATURATED. The new techs coming out of school are ecstatic to just get a PRN job. Most of them graduate and can't get a job at all. Plus there is a lot of lifting and moving involved, and constant pressure to do more with less people and less money.
Why don't you like surgery tech? I am just curious as I have always thought that would be a nice job. Do you take call?
I've been a surg tech for almost 5 years. I went into because my mom had recently been laid off and had taken the program. I did it because I felt like I needed to do "something". It's an okay job....just not really for me. I want something with a little more "social opportunity". I never really realized how social I was until this job. I feel too "behind the scenes" I love working with the kids, I'd just like to do it in a different setting.
And yes, I take call....but usually give a majority of it away....not a huge fan of call....but maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the surgery. =P
lol I'm not a big fan of call ether! With x-ray you will definitely get a lot of social interaction, and being that you already work in a hospital you could possibly just look into transferring departments if they have something open in radiology.
How long was the surgery tech program?
