I saw this posted on my local board, FYI:
It was just brought to my attention that there is a new website called www.spokeo.com that is a new online USA phone book with some very personal information (pictures you've posted, your home address, parents' names, credit score, home value, income, age.) People can pay the website to access information about you. There is a lot of information that most of us would prefer not to be public.
If you are listed, you can remove yourself by searching for your name, then copy the URL of your page, and go to the bottom right corner of the page and click on the Privacy button. You will be asked for the URL of your listing, your email address, and the security code that is listed. You will be sent a confirmation email with further instructions. I removed my record and it was done within one minute.
Re: Internet Security!
Ugh, that site is so creepy. My old boss's wife e-mailed me (and like 30 other people) about it a few weeks ago. I meant to post about it but just forgot I guess. It had two listings for me. One was the house in Tennessee I lived in from age 7 to age 10. The other was my freshman dorm. Pretty random, considering I've lived in like 8 other houses/ apartments in my life.
Either way, I deleted myself. Creepy stalker website.

The only listing they had for me was the post office box I rented 5 years ago, along with a picture of the post office as my "residence". So I'm not exactly concerned, but it's still creepy that anyone would be looking at that sort of thing.
I wasn't on there either, and I had 3 names to check, (hyphenated maiden name (my legal name), just my dad's last name (what I went by in K-12 schooling) and my married name). Actually, my mom, dad and sister weren't on either, but my bro was.
Also, DH thought it may be a scam by getting you to unregister so that they get your email...but I checked it out on snopes (my trusty-go to for internet truths) and it confirmed that's how you take yourself off their list.

Well my married name wasn't on there, but my maiden name was, with an awful lot of info. So I pulled it off and I passed it on to my parents.
Thanks for posting this up!
