Speaking of love/hate - Suck it, Lane Bryant!

Dear Lane Bryant,

When you "developed" your Right Fit jeans a few years ago, I thought it was awesome.  They actually did fit, came in 3 different cuts in my "Fit" and after finding my size, it was easy to remember (Red 4 Petite).  You were charging me $34 for them at the time, and said that you couldn't ever put them on sale because the "technology" took a lot of money and effort to develop, but whatever.  I lived with it.

About a year and a half later when I went in to buy a new pair of jeans, there weren't any.  At all.  In all of Oklahoma City.  I had to resort to going to Woman's World and trying on jeans with a "Tummy Control Panel" that could have doubled as a sports bra.  So I ended up with some crap Old Navy jeans that were too long, and waited for the "new and improved" Right Fit jeans to come along.

So finally, they are back.  And even though I don't care that the sizing is back to standard sizing (because me being a size 4 in anything was just ridiculous to begin with) your petite length is no longer so.  My heels hurt from walking on the hem of my jeans when I'm at home and shoeless.  Also, my belly button is now covered all day, as you apparently don't see the need for a low rise or even a mid rise in these new styles.  My belly botton is not pleased.

My wallet is also very displeased because these f^ckers cost FIFTY FOUR DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now.  WTF, Lane Bryant?  Can't a broke @ss fat chick buy some decent jeans these days?!  I do appreciate the BOGO sale, but seriously, $89 for 2 pairs of jeans that are going to last maybe 3 months before my inner thighs win the denim vs. friction battle???

Also, I do not need whiskering along my lower abdomen, thanks.  I also don't need so much pre-fading on the knees that it looks like they could blow out at any second even though I have only worn them for a total of 3 hours since purchase.

Can we please come to some agreement where a 34 year old woman can buy a pair of jeans that look like they were made for a 34 year old woman and not an 84 year old woman or a 14 year old girl?  I'd really appreciate a nice dark, unfaded and unwhiskered wash.  Thanks a ton!

Yours truly,

T-Payne

  • I find that buying jeans is the most difficult thing I do.  I find a pair and then go to get another and the cut is slightly off.  I hate it.  My thighs don't fit into the slim line jeans and they are always too low.  And don't get me started on the cost!!!

This!  I only wear jeans on the weekend and maybe Fridays at work and I am constantly replacing them!!!

I also hate that plus size shirts are always way too long.  No, really, thanks, I don't need any help accentuating my hips, they do that all on their own.

see i like them "slightly" longer....just to cover the rolls....and so if i bend over i'm not showing anything....im ok with the hip length it actually makes me look slimmer? idk depends on body type i guess...*see icon photo*

  • Ugh, buying jeans makes me want to cut my own head off. The only ones that have an acceptable price tag are Old Navy, and they fall apart after like a month. I have exactly three pairs & one of them I've had for like ten years. They're not exactly fashionable, but they're soft! I pretty much never wear jeans though. Yoga pants = LOVE.

  • I gave up on lane bryant a while ago. Too pricey for me and I never got the fit I was comfortable with.

I go with old navy most times, but lately their fit has been different for every garment. Shirts are practically see through they're so thin and everything stretches out after a few wears. I like their short length pants, but that's limited selection.

  • Do you have Avenue near you? Far better fit for jeans than LB for me and I've had several pairs of them for years and they haven't worn out. I'm 5'8" but apparently have short legs, because I wear petite pants and Avenue's petites fit me perfectly.

  • Trish - I was thinking the same thing when I had to go buy another pair of jeans. Thank goodness my pair was on sale, but it was a bugger to find one pair anyway! When I was looking at the new selection at LB they all had gems on them and silver thread. Why on earth would I want jeans that look like that?

Have you tried getting jeans at the DEB in their plus sizes?

  • Ugh, I hate jean shopping.  I'm a 35 year old fat chick - I don't want my a** hanging out every time I sit down or bend over.  Nor do I want to wear the same style my 61 year old mother-in-law wears.  There has to be a happy medium! And I take a 16, which means there's nowhere to go in the regular misses section if they're tight, and the plus size 16s tend to be too big. (Yeah, I don't know.) Plus, as an added bonus, I'm super picky about the wash on my jeans. So yeah, shopping for jeans is fun.

And I totally feel your pain on the change in fit: I had some Michael Kors jeans that I adored. And when they wore thin, I tried to find another pair that fit the same way.  No luck. The cut had totally changed.  So I wore those suckers right up until they started to split. In the middle of NYC.  I had to run to Macys to try and find something right away, because they were the only pants I had with me. I must have tried on 20 pairs of jeans before I found a pair that worked, all while my husband prayed for death standing outside the changing room in the Herald Square Macys on a Saturday morning. Thankfully, I ended up loving the Tommy Hilfigers that I bought, so I now have 5 pairs of them.  (Including a reserve pair with the tags still on them. Yeah, I'm a crazy person.)

I used to NEVER have trouble with Old Navy fitting and always wondered why everyone else seemed to have so many issues.  And then last year happened and for some reason now nothing fits.  I don't know why.  It's frustrating.

I actually used to work at The Avenue, back in the late 90's.  I have never had good luck with their jeans fitting me the right way, but it's probably time to try again.

Have you tried getting jeans at the DEB in their plus sizes?

Does DEB have straight plus sizes or are they Jr Plus?

    imageMrsHaueisen:
Try Fashion Bug. They have the same style but they are WAYYYY cheaper. I get jeans for 20 bucks. I know they have a plus sized only FB somewhere in OKC

There is a Plus Size one in Moore.  I guess I'll have to give them a try.  They never seem to have Petite length in stock though and I really HATE hemming jeans.  I'd really rather go naked.  lol

My favorite jeans of all time were the Faded Glory (wal-mart!) mid-rise boot cut stretch jeans.  They stopped carrying them a few years ago and now only carry Just My Size, which come up to my arm pits.

  • I LOVED their Right Fit Red trouser jeans.  And then they redesigned them, with a yoke in the back instead of pockets.  Not a good look for me.  So I've been scouring eBay, trying to find more of them.  Dark blue and no whiskering please!
