I've decided not to wait until the last minute (as in after my water breaks) to pack my hospital bag this time. Since it's been a few years now, I'm having a hard time remembering what I really used and needed. Last time, I went by a checklist from some baby site, and ended up taking a bunch stuff I didn't need, but was without things I did want and had to send H back home a few times (since they kept me 2 nights).
I remember I took my makeup (which I didn't care at all about once I was there) but thought the hospital would have shampoo (as my list suggested they would, but didn't) and by the next day I was dying to wash my hair. I also had horrible heartburn during labor and they had no antacids to give me.
What were your hospital necessities?
Was there anything you wished you had with you but didn't? Or anything you took that was completely unnecessary?
Re: Moms (re: hospital bag)
Here is what my bag consisted of:
pillow
nightgown
robe
slippers
toiletries
change of clothes (I basically walked out wearing the same thing I wore in)
book (I didn't even pick up)
I don't remember wishing I had something that I didn't.
I remember bringing way more clothes than I needed. I had a c-section and stayed in my gown most of the time. Not sure what others do with a vaginal birth. I did wear a cotton robe a lot though. Slippers were a must too for me.
What about plenty of hair elastics and head bands? I would also make sure you bring chargers for your camera/phone/video camera! Don't want any of those to die!
I'm sure this doesnt relate to you, but I forgot my wrist braces (wore them due to severe preg onset carpal tunnel). I made DH go to the drug store within the hospital and buy me new ones!
If I think of anything else, I will let you know!
I don't think I brought anything for the baby that I actually needed or used.
So, here's my list for you.
-Camera
-Some method to communicate pictures from said camera to WCF
-Chargers for any electronics and/or batteries
-Shower necessities/toothbrush/etc.
-PILLOW!
-Something easy and comfy to wear home
-Jammers-slippers-robe
-Oh wait, we did need the baby nail files
-Chapstick, chapstick, chapstick
-I think next time I'll bring something to drink. I remember being all kinds of thirsty when I was nursing, and I drank those hospital juice cups like crazy.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
I would take a big, comfy towel. I remember showering at the hospital and their towels were so ridiculously tiny that I needed to use 7 of them to dry off.
Blow dryer.
Tylenol, tums, chapstick, usual toiletries, socks, sweater/jacket, nipple cream.
This one is extremely important!
pillow
boppy
nipple cream
nightgown
slipper/socks
brush/toiletries/some light makeup to make you feel human
chapstick
camera
camera charger
room spray (I chose a lavender and it REALLY helped me during labor)
snacks for dh
hard candies for during labor
pjs for dh
for baby:
blanket
coming home outfit
hat
some little onesies or sleepers for the hospital
carseat
Those are the big things I can think of now.
YES! This is a good one.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
Thank you, ladies! So many good suggestions. There are quite a few things I completely forgot about.
MIAbride- I do remember that I took way too much stuff for DS. All I needed was his going home outfit, a cute outfit for his hospital pictures, a nail file (I was too scared to use clippers on him), and his car seat (which we forgot and H had to go home for). The hospital provided everything else we needed.
