I am stumped!!!
I pay the bills where I work. We have several properties we rent out along with the property we are located on. I paid the property taxes....in fact I went in person to pay them and got my receipts.
Today in the mail I get a REFUND check for duplicate payment on one of the rentals. I called the town to find out what was up. HE said we originally paid on 1/26 ( thats when I went) then he said he got a batch payment from the bank ( the bank we use but have NO escrow accts). I am totally confused. I guess my next step is to call the bank and see if I can get to the bottom of this.
Its about $ 5,000.00

This is probably a stupid question, but did you check your bank account to see if it was withdrawn twice? How long have you been paying the bills there? Is it possible that the person before you set up some sort of automatic payment you don't know about?
I;ve been paying the bills for a LONG time....its our family business.
I took your suggestion and checked our bank account. Nope, the money was only taken out once.
WEIRD!
II have the actual tax bill marked paid in full with the date and check # from when I went and paid it PLUS when they sent the refund check they sent another paid in full receipt!
