Mice in the wall?

Has anyone ever had a mouse in their wall? For the past few days, we have been hearing noises in the same exact spot in our ceiling and it's so loud we thought it was a squirrel or something (we live in an apt in an old brownstone), but our upstairs neighbor said it's most likely a mouse. We think we've sealed up any holes so I hope we don't have to worry about it actually coming into the apartment. But honestly, the sound of it scratching/scurrying/or whatever the hell it is doing in there makes me wonder if it's going to eat right through the wall and fall inside our apt, lol. Honestly, we are contemplating sleeping with earplugs because the noise is so irritating. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get rid of this? How long is this gonna last?

Oh god, have I ever! My mouse saga has been ongoing for ages. The older the house, the easier it is to get in, and our apartment is in a convent built in the 1890's! I heard something scurrying about in our attic this morning actually...

Honestly, there's not much you can do if you can't get into the walls at all. Otherwise I highly recommend poison. It dehydrates the mouse, so when it dies, there's never any smell.

I don't know how true this is and I would not do it unless I lived on a huge country-side property where the next house is quite a ways away (like IL's), but FIL read somewhere that mice don't like the vibrations from loud music, with lots of beats, like heavy metal or techno so he put a speaker toward the wall that they were hearing mice in, and blasted some music for a few hours while they were out. It apparently worked, but the mice moved to another part of the house instead. This would obviously not be an option for you as you live in an apartment, but maybe there is something similar, like tapping on the wall? Good luck!

So MH bought a few of those sonic pulsar things that you plug into the wall that emit the high pitched noises. They get mixed reviews as to whether they actually work, but about an hour after we plugged it in, the noises stopped and its been 2 days and we haven't heard any sounds. What a relief - I'm praying that this is not a fluke and that they are gone for good. The noises were seriously driving us crazy!!

Aw, we got one of those... it worked for a week and then they just got used to it. City mice tend to be much more okay with noise.
