Home Owners Insurance?

Who do you have?  I need to call to get some quotes.  I have no idea where to begin.

Re: Home Owners Insurance?

  • All of our insurance (home, auto, life, ring) is through State Farm.  DH had everything set up before we got married, so I have no idea how to go about it either.  Embarrassed

  • I have SF for everything. I would call around to different companies - Frankenmuth, Allstate, Auto/Home Owners, Geico, Lighthouse Insurance, etc. to get some quotes if that is what you are looking for.

  • Our HO is through Nationwide, chosen by DH when we bought our house; that's who does our cars, too.

  • We just got ours 2 weeks ago. DH called at least 10 places and Allstate had the lowest rate by far (hundreds of dollars lower than other companies). The rates depend on a range of factors though, so I'm sure it's different for everyone.
  • We use Meemic and they were several hundred cheaper than Allstate, who we had originally. I know they do give educator discounts, but even without it they were cheaper.

  • We have Auto Owners (although I think technically it's Home Owners) insurance through an agency up north that I worked at in college.  DH got some new quotes at our renewal date last year and they were still the best price.  I've also heard that they've got great claims service although we've thankfully never needed to file a claim.
  • We have everything through AAA. We use Kathy Vollmer as our rep in the Muskegon office and have found her to be very helpful.

I actually emailed Meemic yesterday.  They are the only ones so far, because I used to have them before I switched to Citizens.  I love Citizens, but they are dropping one of my houses (boo) so I figured I'd call around and get quotes for everything.  We have 2 cars and 3 houses so I'm hoping I can find a decent deal...

  • We have Michigan Farm Bureau.  Their car rates were a tad higher than some others, but we more than make up for it on our housing insurance, so overall Farm Bureau was the best price for us.
