wondahful wednesday

good morning, ladies!

i bit tired here, but so happy: we are filing our taxes tomorrow, starting the process today!  it will be a huge relief to have them done!  my fingers are crossed for any amount over $1000 :)

also, we are planning our anniversary trip!  we are renting a house in the keys wiht lia and alison and the men since we have a shared anniversary!  it is goign to be so fun and relaxing and HOT AND SUNNY:)

and lastly, i feel really good about WW!  2 weeks i have been on it, and i feel like it is something i can actually stick with.  i already cannot wait for my weigh in and meeting on friday!

how are you gals doing?

Re: wondahful wednesday

  • Ooh the trip sounds so fun!  We really need to get the ball rolling on our taxes; I'm thinking my job isn't sending a W2 since I still haven't got it so I should just print it I suppose.  I'm working from home today, I have two things I'm excited about:

    1.  We booked a trip to St. Lucia last night, and it will be AWESOME!  Unfortunately it's not til December so we have a long time to wait.  We're booking something else more local (within driving distance) for the summer though.

    2.  This one is really lame, but I had my annual well-woman exam yesterday and we talked about TTC.  Even though we wouldn't be starting til December at the earliest (nothing to do with our vacation!) I'm switching my BC so that I will be more likely to get pregnant sooner once we start trying, so I feel like I'm 'pre-TTC' and that makes me really excited Big Smile

  • I am SO jealous of both your trips! They sound uber fun.

I'm extra jealous right now because:

    1. We were supposed to go to Puerto Rico last weekend but had to cancel cause of my client

    2. We were supposed to have a romantic weekend get away this Valentine's weekend at my friend's hotel on the beach.  Woudln't you know it, some people came along and offered to pay over the normal rate for our rooms.  We got bumped! (we weren't paying at all hee hee) and the rest of the place is booked solid.    I shouldn't be shocked, you get what you pay for.  But I AM disappointed.

  • Alicia that sucks!  We've had a lot of plans (just nice dinners, nothing as big as yours) get canceled recently and I hate it. You get all pumped for something and then...nothing.  Stuck at home in PJs..blah.

My mom gave us one of her timeshare weeks to exchange as a wedding gift - she meant for us to use it as our HM but it didn't work out so we still need to use it.  We've been having a lot of trouble finding a place, and now we're looking in the northeast but I'm stumped.  Anyone have any suggestions?

  • wonderful wednesday...*gags*
my boss and i had words this morning.  i think he's scared to talk to me now, which doesn't hurt my feelings any.  im being overly nice and happy just to get under his skin.  so, it's a little awkwards here right now.

i need yawl opinion on something...
this morning before i left for work i used our half bath downstairs and found a CC sitting on the counter.  i looked at it and it was one of those loadable ones you get at like 711 or something.  so nosey me i called the # on the back of the card to find out the balance and such.  well, there was $20 on the card and it said your real card is being mailed out on 2/10.  im like WTF!  i know its not mine so it could only be dons.  i called him on my way to work to question him about it.  i felt like he was hiding getting a CC from me.  (backstory, when he was first out of the army when he was 19 he racked up a hefty CC balance and between that and not having insurance when he appendix burst he had to declare bankrupsy so i know shouldn't have a CC because he'll just get into trouble again).  when i asked him what the CC was he said that he got it at 711 the other night and put the $20s on there so that he could surprise me w/ flowers on vday since he knows i check our joint account history (thats his only checking acct).  As for the "real card" geting mailed out yesterday he claims that it's like a debit card and if there's no money loaded on there then it won't work.  im still somewhat skeptical of the whole situation...not that i dont believe him 100% but im afraid that w/ this loadable card thats getting mailed to him that he'll start putting money on there and i can track what he spends to keep our finances in line.  he understood why i would question it and was about to get really mad at him, but...am i crazy for thinking this and not trusting him fully?  should i just let it go now since we've talked about it???

  • 1) laura, holy SHEET you are pre TTC?  wow!  didnt know you guys were trying this year!  cool!

    2) laura, by north east you mean new england?  do you know what states/areas the time shares are that your mom has offered to you?  i can help, just need some options!

    3) alicia, dont be too jealous, i have had a total of 2 weekends off with gerren since the wedding.  he works EVERY.WEEKEND.  it is so hard on our relationship to never have a day off to do anything together.  and at night we are always too pooped to do anything!

    4) jenO--i would just make sure to keep communicating with don, it will be the saving grace in this situation!

  • Jen - I agree about open communication.  Try to stay calm, based on this information I wouldn't go too crazy yet.

Shauni - I was thinking New England, or further south (as far south as SC, even), or possibly like Ohio if there's anything worth visiting there but that's as far West as I would want to drive.  First thought was New England though, somewhere B&B-like or possibly Martha's Vineyard.  I know that's super broad but we're in MD so we're within driving distance of most of the coast - technically I know we can drive farther but then it's not quite as fun!  The company has timeshares in every state, according to their map, so I'm having a tough time narrowing down where to start looking.

Everyone else - sorry to hijack this thread!

  • I'm getting out at noon today so I am excited about that.  Richard and I are having lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant, AOI.  I will be good and stay away from anything fried.  I also have to go to the court house and attempt to take care of my "blocking the intersection" ticket.

I did Zumba last night and wasn't impressed.  I know I wasn't doing it right because I didn't break a sweat.  I thought about quitting but I think I might give it another shot.

  • Your trip sounds fabulous! I adore the Keys. I have been there six times and every time is different and wonderful. I'm happy you three ladies are going together with your mens!

Peeved we cannot file taxes until March due to MFD's independent contractor status. He's not ready.

Why are my fonts all screwy?

Last night I went to Ross to get Geege new mats (he won't go into the kitchen again without them...yes, my dog is "special"), then to Redner's to pick up a few things.

At home I consolidated leftovers, packed lunch, made hard boiled eggs, then put everything back in the basement from Saturday's soiree and cleaned the kitchen top to bottom. I straightened up a bit throughout the house, put a load of laundry in, then MFD got home and we ate leftovers and watched Worst Cooks and CSI on DVR. I fell asleep on the couch, and I guess he did too. We got into bed at 1:30.

I did not want to get up this morning.

I am cold and tired and hungry. I wish I had DD coffee instead of crappy office coffee. My train was late, Suburban Station smelled awful like piss this morning, and I saw my white devil homeless lady who told me I'm wearing my morning pants like all the white devils. Good start to the day.

  • Morning.

I have a ton of work to do and more of it just keeps piling up. I have no idea how I'm going to get it all done. Unfortunately I'm not motivated. All I can think about is how do I want to make chicken for dinner next week. And I'm stuck.

I have boneless skinless chicken breasts. Halp me?!

I wish we could plan an anniversary trip, but I'm refusing to do so until H is working again. I'd like to either go to Vegas or Charleston. (Very different, I know.)

I got a gift card from my coworkers for our wedding, and they totally present it like a credit card and mail you a "real" one. I wouldn't worry about it.

Where are you doing Zumba? I used to do it at the Y and never broke a sweat. At the gym I go to now, I am drenched with sweat and definitely feel it after. It really depends on your instructor. It's a great workout and you can burn more calories in a shorter period of time if you have someone who know's what's up!

  • Good Morning!

This seems to be the longest week ever. I forgot it was Wednesday. Friday, where are you?!

I didn't go to my meeting this morning since I knew the parent and teacher wouldn't be there. I'm about halfway done with all of my paperwork (yay me). I'm hoping to get everything turned in Friday and be done with this hellofaweek.

I'm also super jealous of all of these trips. Jeremy and I are sticking to a tight budget until he finds a better job or I get put on a 12 month salary.

I have boneless skinless chicken breasts. Halp me?!

This is my very favorite thing to do with boneless skinless chicken boobs. Not healthy, but delicious.

    Judy?s Chicken
    Chicken breasts
    Provolone or American cheese slices
Cream of chicken soup (I use fat free)
    Tomato to slice
    Butter
    Stove Top stuffing mix

Season chicken & place in casserole. Cover each piece with a slice of cheese. Pour cream of chicken soup over dish and spread. Place sliced tomato over entire dish. Put stuffing in the microwave with butter. Sprinkle over entire dish.

Bake for 45 minutes at 375.

This is also excellent, and healthier:

    Feta Chicken Bake
    4 chicken breasts
    Lemon Juice
    Salt & pepper
    4 oz crumbled feta cheese
    red peppers
    black olives

Preheat oven to 350. Put chicken breasts in a 13x9 dish.

Drizzle with 2 TBS lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper and a tiny bit of Season-All. Top with 4 oz feta cheese. Drizzle with another TBS of lemon juice

Cut up red peppers and black olives and throw on top.

    Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes.

  • nichole, i love putting chicken in my pasta.  we almost always have pasta with chicken--like pre WW we had it 3 times a week.  also good as stir fry with rice.  and lastly, i like parmesan-dijon crusted chicken breasts: pat down the breasts, dip them in a melted mixture of butter and some dijon.  then dip them in a mixture of breadcrumbs combined with powdered parm cheese (and salt and pepper)  bake on a greased cookie sheet for about 22 minutes for 2 breasts (at 350).

laura--MARTHA'S VINEYARD!  do it!  or cape cod.  or nantucket.  I FREAKING LOVE THAT AREA.

  • I'm kind of jealous of all the trips. H and I might do a lot of traveling in the coming months, but it would be to:

    - Manchester, NH or Bridgeport, CT (hockey)

    - Atlantic City (hockey)

    - St Paul, MN (hockey)

    - Cincinatti, OH (wedding)

    - Western VA (wedding)

And it would only be Fri-Sun for all of them. We were thinking about going to Washington, DC for a week or so, because we're both big American History buffs and H has never been. We'll probably go on a "big" vacation next year.

  • QOA - the great thing about DC is that there's a ton of free stuff to do.  You could easily spend all week just doing the Smithsonian, memorials, and the National Zoo!  I think the Washington Monument is free, too, and there are other free museums.  The Holocaust Museum isn't free but is pretty cheap and completely worth it IMO.

  • Yay, new chicken recipes. Thanks!
  • It's the middle of the week, H and I move out of our apartment in 2.5 weeks and I have to start thinking of packing (all while worrying about getting this loan to go through on the house). Need to find free moving boxes or cheap ones at Lowe's.
Hoping to get some exercise in after work tonight, didn't feel like getting up this morning 1) too darn tired 2) wanted to rest my hamstring but it feels better already.

Shauni - I feel you on the no weekends with your husband. Before James switched jobs, he would work all weekend (typically home by 630p) and his days off were on the weekdays, which doesn't go well with my M-F schedule. Just savor the time you spend with Gerren after he gets off of work, even if it's just being a couch potato in the evenings.

  • Happy Hump Day!  I am totally ready to go on vacation.  DH and I need one SO badly.  Work is kicking both of our butts, and I am sick of this cold and snowy weather.  One week in the sun would do us both so much good!  When it's not snowing here, it's freezing, and vice versa.  It's exhausting and I have the travel bug.  Planning two big vacations for later this year  - one over the summer and one for our one year anniversary in September - but I'm wondering why the hell we never go away during the winter.  That's when we need the warm weather!  Maybe he and I can plan a quick long weekend to Florida or something.....

I'm supposed to get my period this week myself so I am feeling bloated and fat.  I need to get back into a gym routine.

I'm thinking Eggplant parm for dinner tonight and all I want to do is go home and get in the kitchen.

Laura - I highly recommend checking out Cape Cod!  My family owns a house there and that is where DH's and my wedding was.  I absolutely am in love with it, and if you go in the summer the beaches are open and there is plenty to do and eat - I hope you like seafood because you'll get the absolute best you've ever had at the restaurants there - ok, except for maybe your Maryland crab cakes.  If you're looking for a more "resort" type feel, there is always Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  My family has been on vacation there and had the best time!

  • Shauni, I dunno how you do it.  You guys deserve that vacay more than I do.

We have been extremely lucky to have mostly flexible schedules.  So sometimes, yeah, we have to blow off a whole Puerto Rico weekend, but other times (like a couple weeks ago) we just blow off work to stay home and build our love pad - that's what we call it when we set up a bed in front of the fireplace.  We just eat and watch movies all day. It's divine.

Key west is one of my favourite places in the US.

The Holocaust Museum is free and my absolute favorite.  They only give out a certain amount of tickets per day to the permanent exhibit, though, so you can either call ahead to reserve or get there early.  The only museums in DC that I know of that charge admission are the Newseum (which I haven't been to) and they Spy Museum (totally not worth it).

  • I'm having a downer day today.  Today would be my little brother's 26th birthday.  He was killed in a really awful car accident almost 8 years ago.  It's really hard being so far away from my family, and it's been a rough day at work.

I'm starting to get excited about our trip to Tahiti/Moorea next month, though.  I keep dreaming I'm on the beach, and this stupid Crystal Light I'm drinking is actually a yummy cocktail. :-)

  • Wow, am I jealousE of all you ladies that already have anniversary trips planned!  I'll have to talk to H about that.

We're going to London & Paris in May, and I'm super excited for that.  One of H's friends just moved to London, and insisted on putting us up, which is super sweet.

We're unwittingly getting a crazy big tax refund, so H has been looking at Angie's List for recs for handymen/contractors to build out a pergola thingy off the back of our house.  It's so hot where we live, that this will actually make the house that much more liveable, which is awesome.

I'm feeling relieved today, like the weekend is now in sight.  We've been pushing ourselves pretty hard with work, that I really need this weekend to just relax.  I'm getting a haircut/highlight on Saturday, and on Sunday I'm going to make a few batches of pink-tinted marshmallows and cut them out with a heart-shaped cookie cutter, to take to work.
