Business attire or business casual???

What EXACTLY does each mean...does business attire refer to a suit? And dress pants/ skirt w/ nice top and/or sweater comprise business casual. Please feel free to elaborate!

Re: Business attire or business casual???

  • Every company has their own definition of what each means.  If you're unsure what your company's policy is, ask for a copy of the dress code or look in the employee handbook.  And take cues from women at your company who are working in higher up positions and copy what they wear.

In many places that I've worked, "business casual" means that you can remove the jacket to your suit during the day.  But if you browse the OOTD posts on the nest, you'll see that "business casual" other places often means anything but jeans are fine.  There's just too much of a spectrum to really give a straight answer to this.

  • Business attire usually = suits

Business casual usually = anything other than jeans

  • What PPs said...  only I put Business Casual as nicer than "not jeans"

When in doubt  - overdress.  I can't think of a case where I would want to be the most dressed down person in the bunch... being the best dressed person usually a bad thing.
