wwtnd? re: travel

All options are priced for 2 people.

ORD = O'Hare

MSP = Minneapolis/St. Paul

MDW = Midway

DUB = Dublin

Option 1:

$350 - Fly to MDW on 3/17.  Celebrate St. Pats with friends in Chicago. Crash at their place.

Dep: ORD to DUB on 3/18 @ 7:30p.

Return: arr ORD @ 3:15p on 3/27, then go from O'Hare to Midway within 2h 20mins (this is causing me some concern) dep MDW to MSP @ 5:35p

Option 2:

$300 - on 3/18, take coach bus w/ rest of Mpls crew (about 25 people) to ORD. 8 hour ride.

Dep: ORD to DUB on 3/18 @ 7:30p.

Return: ORD @ 3:15p on 3/27 then a coach bus back to MSP. probably wouldn't get back to the cities until close to midnight and I'm supposed to work Monday.

Option 3:

$400 - on 3/18, fly Delta to ORD in early afternoon

Dep: ORD to DUB on 3/18 @ 7:30p.

Return: ORD @ 3:15p on 3/27 then Delta back to MSP

I'm so torn as to what to do and lars just says, "whatever you want to do baby".

Help me decide!

Re: wwtnd? re: travel

  • I think Option 1 sounds the most fun... since you'd get to see friends and relax a little bit in Chicago.

    But, because of my bad luck with crappy connections/rental car and train issues in 2010 I'd pick Option 3 because it seems to be the most simple and quickest option.

  • Are all the options set in stone, or could you do a combination of a couple options?  I would want to go to Chicago and celebrate St. Patties with friends, but I wouldn't want to switch airports on the way home.  So I'd go pick the departure details of option 1 and the return of option 3.

    If you can't combine the options, I'd go with #3, sanity while traveling is worth the extra cost to me! :)

  • Option 1 if you plan to take the shuttle between the 2 airports.  That should be plenty of time.  If you're nervous about the layover, then option 3.

    i love when something is so obvious that i can't see it. you're brilliant brit!

    msp to mdw on southwest on 3/17 is $64pp ($75 with taxes)

    ord to msp on delta on 3/27 is $89pp ($99 with taxes)

    we eliminate the airport issue AND it's the same price as option 1.

    i could kiss you!

    This. Exactly.

    Can't believe the prices are that low. I need to book another trip to Europe!

  • Option 1 sounds fun, but I would probably pick Option 3.  2:20 to get from MDW to ORD would make me worry, especially since you would need to account for customs at MDW, travel time, and check in and security at ORD.
  • I'd do option 3. Without a doubt. In option 1,  "Celebrate St. Pat's with friends" to me sounds like "drink with friends" and you do not want to fly hung over or dehydrated. Or lacking sleep. And the time in between getting to O'Hare and Midway doesn't seem like enough time.

    I wouldn't even consider option 2.

    then you would never ever go on this trip because i'm pretty sure we'll be all of those things. we start drinking at the airport and pretty much don't stop until we fly back a week later. it IS called the Ireland Pub Crawl afterall. Big Smile
