Cleaning microfiber? (couch)

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you could offer any advice on cleaning microfiber. We have a chocolate brown couch and chair that are only 2 years old. We have 2 dogs that have drooled all over the things and just generally want to deep clean them. What is the best way you've washed microfiber? The cushions zip off. Can you bring them to the dry cleaner? What are we looking at for cost?

Re: Cleaning microfiber? (couch)

  • If the cushions have covers that zip off, look for a tag. My old microfiber sofa had covers that could be washed at home. Cool wash, very cool dry (or hang them up). Also, I have a Pledge Fabric Sweeper that I love to use to get the hair off the couch. It works really well with my two dogs. You can also have your furniture deep-cleaned by Stanley Steemer or ChemDry (or any similar company). I think the fee for Stanley Steemer is around $75.

  • I actually just threw mine in the wash.  There was no tag, but they zipped off so I just risked it.  I put it on cold, with woolite and let them sit outside to dry.  They turned out PERFECT!
  • Mine came with instructions not to wet the fabric with straight water but to blot with regular household rubbing alcohol, like 70% or whatever.  But I am mostly spot cleaning small pen marks and stuff, so not exactly a drool situation.  If I were you I might consider tossing a slip cover on it so I could pull that off and wash it in the machine easily.
