Repost from the Bump - Relocating from Baltimore - need some help/advice
DH has a job opportunity in Grand Prairie, TX. We are looking for an area with great neighborhoods and great schools near Grand Prairie. From my research, I really like the Southlake school district. Thing is, we are spoiled by his 10 minute communte here in Baltimore. I think 35 minutes (Southlake to Grand Prairie) may be a little much. I like him to be able to come to school functions during a lunch break. Are there any areas with great schools and neighborhoods closer to Grand Prairie?

Hi,
DH and I moved here from Baltimore this summer for his job. We live in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area and love it. PM me if you have any questions.
Good luck!
35 minutes might be the best you can do with his office in grand prairie. The west dallas area is just not known for the best schools or safe neighborhoods.
You could try University Park/Highland park and get it down to 15 minutes (depending on what part of University Park/Highland park and what part of Grand prairie your husband is in) Traffic doesn't flow that direction so he would have no trouble with rush hour really, but that neighborhood is pretty expensive so I'm not sure if that would be in your price range. Great schools though!
If not, I seriously think southlake is your best option. If it were me, I would sacrifice the short commute in order to have safe neighborhoods with other fun moms to be friends with and great schools for my kids. I know that's not the answer you wanted! Just a ten minute radius from grand prairie doesn't put you in the best area unfortunately!
I live in the south end of highland park closer to 30 and it would definitely be more than a 15 minute drive to grand Prairie. It's more like 20-25. I really think you may just have to sacrifice the drive and go for Southlake or the Lewisville area.
Agree. We live in the park cities area and it took DH 35-45 minutes to get to Grand Prairie at his old job. You might want to look at Mansfield schools, but if you can afford to live in Southlake/Grapevine, I would highly recommend that area.
