that is life with a newborn. Man, nothing can prepare you for how much your life changes literally in a blink of an eye! Parker and I are doing great, getting through our second day at home without dad. I was so nervous Monday night to be on my own, but I just decided to set no goals for yesterday other than feedings, diaper changes and pumping. Even managed to get a short nap in! Today has been so much more productive, I've gotten a quick shower in, two loads of laundry and the dishwasher running.
The first few days home were really difficult, I definitely had the baby blues. It's the strangest thing, here you've welcomed this little life into yours and it should be the happiest moment ever, yet the hormones and emotions that are tearing through your body seem to occupy every bit of you. Doesn't help that I was having issues with him latching, so instead of breastfeeding, I am exclusively pumping. It's def more work, but I'm happy that I'm producing milk at all! Poor H had to deal with a lot of crying for no reason, but he has been my rock. My mom came over Saturday to help out and spent the night. She and my dad made us dinner, it was so awesome to have their help!
Whew, sorry to unload, long story short - ladies that are expecting, accept ALL help offered to you. It will definitely make your life easier while you adjust and recover.
Hopefully this won't be another post and run, I miss be able to chat with you ladies!
Re: Slowly coming out of the haze....
Awww, it's so great to hear from you! I've been wondering how things were going, but didn't want to bug you too much when your obviously very busy! Glad to hear things are going well for the most part! Sorry to hear about the latching issues, but it sounds like you have a good plan and are making it work. That's what you do with a newborn, right?! haha Have you been CDing? Take care and post more pics of that sweet baby when you get a chance
Good luck with EP'ing. Nate had latch issues, too. I've never again heard him scream the way he used to when I would try to BF him. It was heartbreaking.
I say, the first few weeks, the only goals you should have are: keep the baby fed, keep yourself fed, change diapers, and get a shower and/or nap if you can. Sounds like you're doing well!
This. Your only job right now is to learn how to be a mom! There is something very natural about it but that doesn't mean it is easy.
I'm so sorry to hear you guys had latch issues. How frustrating! Good for you for pumping- that is a difficult decision to make! Maybe you should name your pump, since you're spending so much time together...
Glad to hear you guys are doing well! I will probably end up EPing as well. I can't wait to hear more from you about how this is going for you.
Hang in there! I'm sure you are doing a wonderful job as a Mom. Those first few weeks are definitely an adjustment.
Can't wait to hear more from you.
Hey, victories in the small things, right? Showers, naps, and getting the dishes done are all milestones at this point.
Did you end up getting your pump through the hospital? What kind did you get?
Also, glad to hear you're both doing well, and that you're feeling better.

Glad you are doing good! If you haven't already, I recommend meeting with a lactation consultant. I've been working with one my pumping/supply issues and it has been very helpful.
Isn't it amazing how much your life has changed !
Exclusively pumping
Hi Heather!
Good to hear from you
Definitely go easy on yourself if you don't reach some goals other than what pp w/ experience said (feeding baby & you, changing diapers, napping, etc). It's a change of life- so any wins are wins!!!
