So quick background. DH and his friends have video game night once a week since he has to stay in Buffalo for school. Dh plays a lot more than his friends so he is better, and when they play against each other his friends all get pissed. So...
This week his friends asked him to bring his Xbox along so they could set up two TV's and play Co-operatively. Sounds great, until you realize that with it being so cold, DH has to lug that xbox around at school all day for 2 days so he doesn't leave it in the freezing cold car.
When he packed it up Mon morning I told him it wasn't a good idea, it could get stolen, it could get dropped, who knows what could happen. He promised he would keep it with him all day and never let it out of his sight. So I was none too pleased that he took it with him despite my protests.
So yesterday he gets home with the xbox, pluggs it in, and what do you know the stupid disk drive is all sorts of messed up. We had slight problems before with it reading disks and we fixed it then. We now the stupid thing won't open, and of course last night when he was testing it out he put his favorite game in there, so now we have to figure out how to get the damm thing out!
Ugh I wish he had been right that nothing would happen to it. But at least he admitted he was wrong and will not be taking the new xbox with him when we get it. Which will now be his, VD gift, his Birthday gift, and his early anniversary gift for the year.
Re: There are times I wish DH was right.
That sucks!!! I swear sometimes men completely know what a bad idea something is but they can't help themselves. I hope you can figure out a way to get it working.
Next time hide it and and blame the dog.

Yeah We'll have to give it a try.
Dh did call their CS line today. It will cost $100 to get it fixed no matter what, and if something happens down the line again we'll have to shell out another $100. We would have to pay them before they will look at it since it's out of warrenty.
Since 2005ish when the xbox360 came out we have gone through 3 xboxes. One we lost to that stupid red ring of death that they sent us a new one for. then we lost another one to the red ring of death, but becasue it was the replacement they wouldn't do anything for us. Now this one. At least the first one was a gift, so we've only paid for this last one. But still it pisses me off
But at least this one will still be able to serve as a netflix server. We just can't use it for gaming, or watching DVD's on it. Which is like 65% of our use of it.
Ugh damn electronic devices and the evil people that make them!

Thanks Jess. We tried the trick that Kathy posted above, and so far no opening. I'm gong to give it another try later tonight. But even if he has any other suggestions for getting the tray open that would be great.

he's working on what else could help but he said 99% of the time it fixes it if you unplug it, shake it around, then lay it horizontally because the disc shifted causing it not to open. he said you may have to shake it in different directions to keep trying but it's most likely that the disc just needs to be shaken back into place.
ill let you know tomorrow if he tells me anything else (or let me know if you get it fixed). i'm a loser and i'm going to bed. good luck!

Well we finally got the disc out. grabbed a crappy old game to try again with. The drive wouldn't stay closed, so DH held it closed. It did read the disc, but won't eject it. But there is def. something wrong with the disc drive. If you don't hold it closed it will just keep opening and closing every time you try to close it. If you try to close it without a disc in there the green light keeps blinking which is really annoying. So we'll sacrifice a crap game to leave in there so it will close and the light won't blink. It's an original style white xbox, not the version S.
So unless we want to go through this every time, it's time for a new xbox. We'll keep this one and use it in the other room for netflix access and the arcade games so it can def. still get used. .
