York or Hanover ladies - input appreciated

DH and I are considering a move to the York area at the end of this year, and would rent at first to see if we want to buy there and make it permanent. We would be most interested in renting a townhouse. Are there any rental communities you recommend? Any to avoid? Are there particular areas in York that are great for raising a family, or bad areas we shouldn't look in? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Steer clear of York city. Almost all of the districts in York are pretty good. I live in York Suburban and it is getting too populated. It is a good district, but getting to be too tight. Otherwise, you are pretty good to go with the York districts. Do you want to live closer to York or Hanover? In Hanover area, Spring Grove and Southwestern are great districts. Littlestown isn't too bad either.

  • You probably can rent a townhouse that is not in a rental community.  That might give you more of a feel for a particular area if you want to test the waters.  I live north of York and I see signs for rentals around townhouse communities (ex Peacefields).  I think it is because people are upside down after the crash and are renting instead of selling.  We are in Central, I hear that it is a good district.  There are lots of families in our neighborhood (I think we are the only ones without children).
  • we lived in a townhouse for a year in the West York school district on the boardline of York and Dover before we bought a house.. and we loved the area alot... the townhouse ran us about 850$ a month (included the dog rent which was $10)... it does have a pool which was awesome... sorta country and quiet but yet 5 minutes from route 30...5-10mins from 83... about 1/2 hr from hanover .... it was called madison at valley manor.... good luck! i love york.

  • We just moved into a house in suburban school district- I love our neightborhood- its right off the 83/30 exits which is close. Which is such a great thing about york you can be right near the highways for travel because I come from Lancaster.  If your thinking of a specific place in york and need help feel free to email me- sparklechic20@msn.com  We have friends who in live a townhouse in hellam and are looking to put it on the market it march ( they live in a community) I would def avoid the city- seeing as you want to raise a family and also when it would be time to own a home the city taxes are double!  We had a hard time when we were searching for our home because we liked a few who had city school district and the taxes were crazy!  There are alot of smaller neighborhoods in york, Dan( boyfriend) just moved to our new house and he lived in the more southern end of york before in dallastown school district which is nice also. Please feel free to contact me like I said also.

hope you can find your new future home
