We just got a dishwasher for the first time (yaaay!), on a bit of a tight budget this year trying to pay down renovation debt. I asked DH to bring home "cheapest detergent. liquid". He only heard the first 2 words. This powder stuff is AWFUL. I don't mind spots at all, but I get the feeling there is actually a lot of soap residue on my dishes. There is an actual film on the inside of plastic items. I have to wipe down a lot of my non-stick cookware after I take it out. Any advice? I hate to waste the rest of this box.
Re: Powder dish detergent
The one area where I never skimp is on dishwasher detergent. The cheap stuff just doesn't do the job, IMO. I use only Cascade--I prefer the powder, but the Cascade Complete packs work well too. I would just toss the cheap detergent, and buy something else.Cascade issues a lot of coupons in the Sunday paper, so you can save some money that way.
Also, make sure your rinse aid dispenser is full too.
I've used both powder and liquid and I actually didn't mind the powder. But if you want to use it up, try using a little less and use vinegar instead of a rinse agent. You can either pour it where the rinsing agent normally goes or just pour some in the bottom of the dishwasher. It works great!
