Let me tell you about this wedding invite I received

I almost had to giggle.  SOOO many etiquette errors, but it's my cousin, so I can't laugh about it on FB so I had to come here. Let me add in right now, I'm being snarky because this is a side of my family I do NOT get along with.  We are pleasant to each other the once every 2 years we see each other, but I hate their high and mighty attitude.

1.  It came postage due.  20 cents.  You would think they would have figured that out before they were sent.

2.  So far I have found 3 typos.

3.  The RSVP card has no postage on it.

4.  registry information on the "information card"

5.  hotel rates on "information card" for the reserved block for their wedding.  $250 a night?  Where's the Comfort Inn when I need it!  lol

6.  Save the dates came IN the actual announcement.  What is the purpose in that?

so as I said...I'm being a bit snarky, but I just had to laugh at this invite.  And btw...no we are not going to the wedding.  I have a feeling we will be in the middle of a flood fight here again.

  • Wow...has she never seen a wedding invite before?  The girls over on the knot would tear that apart!  LOL

  • That is worth a chuckle for sure!  They should have skipped the STD's and used that money to pay for the postage ;)

  • lol..no kidding.  I am definitely not a prim and proper kind of girl, but for wedding invites, I think a few rules should be followed.  #1 Rule would be "don't make the guest pay for the postage on their invitations"
  • Hmmmm.  Yup - that covers the top 5 etiquette rules!  Oh boy.  I think I'd send them a single sheet of stamps for a wedding present!  Wink

My mom once got an invite that was home-printed on a regular sheet of typing paper.  And it was obviously not a NICE home printer.  The border was a rope that joined two horse shoes and it said in Western font "We're gettin' Hitched!" It wasn't cut straight - it looked like a kid took his blunt plastic scissors to it.  And it went downhill from there.  The kicker is....my mom had NO IDEA who the people were!!

When I was in college driving back and forth from Ames to here I would dream up wedding invites in my head to pass the time.  :-)

  • lol...I got an email one once, but to defend them a TINY bit...it was more of a "we're running away to Vegas to get married" type thing.  They didn't even want a reception at home.  So it was more just to let everyone know.
  • Where is this wedding that the hotel costs $250 a night? It better be on a beach somewhere in a tropical climate :-)

Obviously this bride never looked at any wedding planning book/website or she would know better. Some people are just clueless, though. I once received an invite that said ... on the actual invitation (not on an insert) ... "We're registered at Target, and Target or Home Depot gift cards are appreciated". What?!? You're going to ask for a specific gift on the invitation? Talk about tacky.

Then again, sending invites postage due is pretty darn tacky too. Kiz has a good idea - send postage stamps as their gift :-)
