Whywhywhy won't this godforsaken pieceofcrap program allow me to type 2+2 [enter] and the damn cell show a 4?!
Is there a way to set it to do simple functions, like add or subtract within one cell?
I do not want to sum a column.
Corel WordPerfect Suite forever!!!
Re: Excel help
Make sure you have an equals sign in front of it.
=2+2 will display 4
HTH!

No, I hadn't done that b/c wth would put an = at the beginning of an equation?
I have so much Excel/Word hate, I can't even put it into words. Thank you for the help!
I think the idea is that it's like a mathematical equation in reverse. X = 2 + 2 The cell value is the "X" and since you have clicked into the cell you want a value for, you are telling Excel what equation gives you that value. Idk, Excel can do some pretty neat stuff, but it's really hard to figure out how to do it without reading a manual or asking someone to show you. It'snot really intuitive.
Have you tried =SUM(2+2)
This works too, but you don't need the SUM function if you are adding numbers within a cell. SUM is necessary, however, when you're adding the values from multiple cells- e.g. =SUM(A1+B3+C5)
