How many sticks am I gonna have to pee on???

Well, if I wasn't already going enough of PTs (I have an obsession with it, but I limit myself to the three that come in the box per cycle), this month my doctor wants to make sure that I am actually ovulating, otherwise they will have to up my dose of Clomid, so I am having to do ovulation tests now too...I have read that some women test better in the morning, and some better in the afternoon, so I am doing both.

Are any of you TTCers doing the ovulation tests too? Be honest, how many PTs do you take each month? : ) Please tell me I'm not alone in my craziness!!!

Re: How many sticks am I gonna have to pee on???

  • Here's what I do: every few months I load up on a 40 pack of OPK strip cheapies from Amazon. I usually O day 14 or 15, so starting day 11 or so I use the cheapies twice a day - late morning and in the evening/nighttime. When I get what I think is a positive I dip a digital test to make sure (love those smiley faces!).  After I get a positive I do a couple more tests - usually just once a day - until I get a negative, which is usually about a day and a half/2 days after the first positive.

I forget, are you temping? I found doing the OPK/temping combination for a few months really helped me pinpoint when I was ovulating; as in, how far ahead of ovulation I start getting positive OPKs. I only temped for a few months since my cycles are pretty consistent but it was very insightful.

  • I got my + preg test on day 50 something.

it was actually around day 35 that I OVULATED. I wasnt good about taking my temp because of working 3rd shift, but I know this is about when I ovulated because of my due date after my first us :-)

anyway...my point is I got sooo very sick of taking OPKS (ovulation tests) because they NEVER came back + ... or a surge or anything...because of how late I was Oing.

It made  me too upset seeing neg on my preg tests too.. soo I always waited till late to start testing.

  • Thanks ladies. I got a bunch from Amazon, too, so atleast that was cheaper than getting them at the store. I am usually pretty consistent with the temps and other symptoms of ovulation (with clomid, my ovaries swell big time, so I can feel that), so I am sure of the "time" of the month that I am supposed to O, but they just wanted me to take these tests to make sure that I actually am. This is my first month of testing, and I am supposed to O tomorrow, so I was really hoping for a smiley face this morning, but no such luck. : (

Hopefully, by the time I get home from work tonight I will have a smiley!

  • I hear ya... I was kind of pee stick crazy... I used the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor, so I was peeing on sticks every day from cycle day 6 until I ovulated.  The cycle I got my BFP I also used OPKs (ovulation predictor kits), because the previous cycle I had only gotten highs but no peak reading on the monitor, and I so did not want to miss the egg!

You're probably very wise to check a couple of times a day (first morning urine and then again in the afternoon would be my advice).  That way, in case you have a shorter than normal LH surge (as I seemed to, but due to my age), you'll be more likely to catch it!

    Rooting hard for you, Tigger!
