BR: Where did you get your baby's furniture?
I am looking for something gender neutral. I'm not quite sure if we want white or just some shade of wood. The only this is not to completely break the bank.
I'm looking for a crib and a changing table that is also a dresser. The nursery isn't "that" big so we can probably only put in a bookcase, other than those other 2 pieces.
Also, do you use a regular closet for the baby's clothing or do you generally find that everything fits in the dresser? I have a feeling I will have to give up half of my closet for J so that the baby can have a closet as well. ( he uses the closet in that room for his stuff and I have completely taken over the walk-in.)

Re: BR: Where did you get your baby's furniture?
There's a set at BRU that's an antique white (basically cream) that we love, but it's really expensive. :-(
I'm having a hard time finding cheaper options in the color we like.
Crib - Babies R Us... White Lauren from the Graco Collection
Dresser - IKEA (we're also using it as a changing table)... also in White, we decided to go with Hemnes 8-drawer
I gave up my closet in the spare bedroom for Sami's clothes because, OMG, did she need it. The more storage space the better, I say...

I check out nursery stuff from time to time. Having a nursery gets me excited to one day be a mom.
We ordered our bed from Hayneedle.com, they have some pretty good stuff, and most of it ships straight from the warehouse. They have a good selection of cribs.
Ikea also has some versatile pieces that you might just be able to add a changing pad to the top, and re-purpose as a dresser later for your kiddos when they're older.
The Hemnes chest of drawers is one that I love. Their Gulliver crib also gets pretty good ratings and it is only $100.
If you're also looking for a deal on non-crib items, I'd check out Craigslist too.
Yay! Mrs. Mo's nursery talk! I'm still so excited for you lady!!! Please have a #5 decal somewhere in the room.

I got the crib from Babies R Us but was having a hard time finding a dresser/changing table combo that I liked there in natural wood finish. I wanted one that also had shelves on top. I found one one walmart.com and love it!
We got ours at Pottery Barn. We paid 300.00 for the crib and 500.00 for the dresser/changer.
We also have a small room so I wanted just the basics.
here is a pic of it. It fits all on one wall so that we have a little bit more space.
Pictures...
I'm pretty sure we're going with Babies R Us for furniture. I'm hoping for a decent sale too. I swear last year they did a package with a free chair....or maybe I'm making that up.
Anyway, I'm 99% sure we'll go with white. This is the set I really like. Its on the pricier side but the crib is convertible and the dressers can be used into adulthood.
I don't know if this is nationwide or not - but Mac, you for sure should check out Burlington Coat Factory. They sell a lot of the same furniture/baby stuff that Babies 'R Us sells, but the prices are considerably less.
I've cruised through Burlington once or twice and didnt see this set. I'm not married to it though, maybe I can find something similar...Thanks Michelle!
We have the same crib!
Sara and Kel, I love your cribs (and dresser.) I'm really digging the non-espresso furniture right now, just because it's so dang common now. (Even though I'm lusting after a new espresso bedroom set for H and me.) We ended up going with a medium wood for the baby's room. It's pretty traditional in style, but I think it'll look really cute.
Mrs. Mo, if you're wanting gender-neutral, I'd go with a brown wood of some sort, or natural wood like Kmo's nursery. White is a bit girly to me...I've seen it look adorable in boy nurseries, but if you're planning on keeping the furniture for your child a long time and you have a boy, I just don't think it transitions as well. It's adorable for a girl though!
Also, check your local furniture stores too, or any baby/child specific stores in your area (not counting Babies R Us.) We ended up getting our set from a furniture retailer here. Our set's manufacturer received an "A" review in Baby Bargains, so we're hoping it holds up! We have a small nursery too, but we bought the tall dresser in addition to the short dresser/changer because the short dresser only had two "real" drawers in it. The others were swing-out caddies or a cabinet. I'll probably get some storage drawers for the closet too.
I completely disagree with white being girly. In a small nursery white is probably your best bet because the furniture looks less heavy and bulky. Our very boyish nursery is navy, red, light blue and off-white furniture. It just worked much better than using a dark wood color.
We researched crib ratings and decided to go with either a Graco or a DaVinci crib for price. We ended up getting an off-white DaVinci from BRU on clearance for about $225.
We bought the Birkeland dresser ($149?) at Ikea to go with it and are affixing the changing pad to the top of the dresser. We also have a narrow red bookcase to go next to the dresser with storage baskets, some shelves on the wall and the glider.
Our nursery closet was empty, so we are able to use it for clothes. We put in a second rod that is lower since the clothes are so short. I am guessing we'll use the dresser mostly for sleepers, onesies, blankets, towels, etc.
