Milestone birthday - need party ideas!

My mom has a milestone birthday coming up and I'm trying to think of some ideas to make the birthday celebration special.  We normally take her out to a nice restaurant or cook something special at home.  I'm fine with doing the usual, but if there are any other creative ideas out there, I'd love to hear them.  My step-dad's birthday comes before hers and she suggested taking him to the Skirvin where they have a special table set up in the kitchen and you can watch the chef prepare your dinner.  I hadn't heard of this before, and it actually sounded like a good idea for her birthday.... although it sounds like she's already done this so I thought we might try a different place or something.  You gals have any interesting ideas?

  • Well seems like they like food, so how about a personal chef for a night? You could do all of you guys or even just them two? Here are a few personal chefs I have heard of here in OK. They can even teach you to make the meal so it is more hands on?

Or is there anything she has ever talked about doing/trying, just never has had the time, etc?

  • I think the Chef thing at the Skirvin is being postponed since Andrew is moving to the Colcord.  To my knowledge, they do not have a replacement and haven't even begun to look for one.

What about giving her and your step dad a night at a B&B?  There are two really cute B&Bs in Norman - one near the library and one out on Highway 9.  The one on Highway 9, Whispering Pines, had a really great restaurant with a seasonal menu. Plus, its fun to stay in a B&B.

  • Some friends of mine have done Table 1 before and loved it. Basically, you and your group are the only people at the location, the chef cooks and serves the food right there in front of you. One of the chefs is the chef/owner of Iguana. I couldn't find a website, but here is their FB page.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!  These are great ideas and I know I'll keep them in mind for future occasions too!
