Hobbies with your husband?

Do you have a hobby that you share with your DH?  I don't and I wish I did!

I love dance and yoga.  My husband is not a dancer, and HATES yoga with the passion of a thousand fiery suns.  (no joke, I've tried and he really hates it :-)

My husband is big into outdoor athletics.  He does triathalons, so he likes to swim, bike and run (he doesn't really like the run part, but he does it anyway).  I only swim recreationally, haven't been on a bike since I was thirteen, and hate running wih the passion of a thousand fiery suns (for REAL).

We have nothing that we do together!  I wish we liked what the other did, but it's not happening.

Any suggestions for a new hobby we could start together?  Besides raising our daughter, of course :-)

Re: Hobbies with your husband?

  • How about cooking class?  Mike and I love to cook together.  It might be a fun way to bond.  Otherwise, we both like going to museums and concerts (if we can afford it).  HTH!

  • Cooking was the first thing that came to my mind too! It's probably 'cause I love to eat so much. lol

DH and I both love to travel (probably me a little more than him), but we both love Disney World equally. Unfortunately, traveling is not something we can afford to do weekly. As for a "hobby"? Nah, we really don't have one that we share. DH loves basketball (I hate it) and he loves exercising (hate this too). The only thing we will do is maybe play a game of Monopoly or play the Wii, but with the arrival of our bambina, that happens few and far between...so, nope, no hobbies for us to share either. =/

  • Definitely cooking.. what about working out?  Maybe going for walks, playing Wii, travelling, trying new restaurants, etc.

  • Since neither of us get paid for it, i'd consider doing theatre a 'hobby'. That is, when we're actually working on the same production.

I of course *love* dance with the passion of a thousand fiery suns, and DH took dance classes in college so he likes it too. So we'll go to ballet performances (when we can afford it) and watch So You Think You Can Dance.

DH *really loves* baseball, so i try to pay attention to that. So i've gotten in to the Red Sox quite a bit. ;)

I'd love for DH and i to take salsa or ballroom classes together. And i think he'd be up for it too!!

I agree with the others about cooking. Or trying new restaurants. Or playing games/board games together? That's another thing that i want to do, but DH isn't too in to that.

  • You both like being active, maybe there's something to do together there. Have you done outdoor things like hiking. One of you could carry your daughter and the other a backpack of supplies, food, ect. And when it gets nicer, you can go into the city to walk around. I'm actually looking forward to that. I know it sucks right now because of the weather. We got a Wii that we could play together, but dh had annoying sportsmanship.

  • DH and i discovered we liked to cook together when we got a nicer kitchen.  it's so amazing to MAKE things together, and have a finished product at the end.  we also have a dorky obsession with bowling, and are actually going to go bowling for valentine's day rather than spend tons of money in an over-crowded and under-staffed restaurant.

there are lots of other fun things to do that are active...rock-climbing comes to mind, and there are plenty of gyms around the city with a climbing wall.  or maybe an intermural dodgeball or kickball team?

    also.....is sex a hobby? Wink

  • H and I also have differing tastes when it comes to things we like to do.  He like motorcycles, cars, running, and bicycling.  I hate running. I've thought about getting a bike so that we can go on rides together, hold hands, and all that stuff.  But it hasn't happened yet. We do like to go walking, exploring, and such together. We also like to cook, eat, and drink.  We both love music and go to concerts together as much as we can. We travel, again when we can.
  • DH and I got bikes a couple of years ago and we love to go on long, leisurely bike rides. Same things with walks, we like to just go on a really long walk to go explore a different neighborhood.

We both love wine, so poking through wine stores to find new things or going to wine tastings is fun for us - not quite as doable now that DS is here.

We both like football, so we would usually make a fun family day on Sundays and cook something in the crockpot and watch games - that is over at this point though.

I guess we just have a bunch of random things we do together, without a true hobby. I'm always looking for stuff for us to do together but not everything sticks. We used to go to yoga together every week and that fizzled eventually. So my advice is just keep trying things out and see what you end up enjoying.

  • DH and I really got into hiking/camping in the past couple years. We plan to continue it even post-baby and even found another couple/parents that love to hike! We climbed Mt. Washington in NH when I was 8 weeks pregnant - what a thrill!

I used to rock climb when I was in high school and DH has fallen in love with it. He's been going for over a year or so to Brooklyn Boulders. We have only been able to go a couple times together because it's been hard to find someone to watch Freddie, but that's definitely something we enjoy together.

We are big on cooking - but we don't really do it together. We just help each other discover new things and try new recipes. We've always wanted to do a cooking class together.

such fun! Hope you find a great new hobby.
