Sad sight on way to work

I live in NW Tampa and when driving to work along Forest Lakes Blvd this morning, I saw a deer on the side of the road.  In fact, thankfully there were no cars in the other lane, because I had to swerve to avoid hitting him.  What made it harder for me was that he was still alive and trying to get up off the road.  UGH....I am such a lover of animals that just thinking of it makes me get tears in my eyes.

There are so many deer out in our area, so it's fairly common to see them dead on the side of the road.  This is the first time I have seen one that is still alive and struggling to get away.  When I was a short distance past him, I saw two pinellas county deputies sitting in a parking lot, so I pulled over and let them know so they could go check it out.  I was afraid the deer might somehow crawl out into the middle of the road and make the situation worse.

I'm such a softie...animals just really hit home for me.  They are so innocent and they deserve better.  Well, except for the armadillos that continually tear up our yard!  :)
