need some car seat advice

So after much research we are getting the evenflo triump lx...here is the problem:

The older model is the evenflo triumph advance which only goes to 50lbs FF and has great reviews!!

The newer one evenflo triumph 65 goes to 65lbs and has extra padding not a lot of reviews bc it is new

The reviews are mostly for the advance becuase the 65 is so new. Do we go with the advance or the 65?

Re: need some car seat advice

  • We went with the Evenflo Triumph that goes to 50lbs when we got a new convertible.  My thoughts on that were... we have smaller cars so I didn't want a huge seat, and M is a peanut and figured she wouldn't be over 50lbs before she reached the criteria for a booster seat.  I have no idea if that will hold true, but I figured we could always upgrade if need be and use the 50lb one for the potential child #2.  I couldn't really find any reviews for the 65lb one either but the triumph advance LX/DLX (50lb) is consumer reports top recommened convertible seat.

  • I would go w/ the 50lb one. Em is 4 and about 37lbs.  I can't imagine she'll be 50lbs till she's around 6 or 7 and by then she'll be in a booster.
  • Ben is still in his Evenflo TRiumph (ours only goes to 40lbs FF I think). he's 2.5 and only weighs like 29 lbs and isn't near the height limit. So to gain 10 lbs will take a long time!

that said, Maddy is already into the other Evenflo we have b/c I can't carry the infant seat anymore. So we are investigating the Graco Nautilus for Ben - it is FF only and goes from 20-65lbs as a 5-point harness then is a high-back booster then a backless one. So last seat he'll ever need. We're going to get one for now and then see if we want a second one for the other car. Just depends on how easy installation is and daycare situations. Then Maddy will have the Evenflo for a while then she can  have a Nautilus or whatever is new then.

I love the idea of the 5-point harness for a long, long time. So it just depends on what you want to do.

  • I have the reg. triumph and it lasted me until C was 3 before she outgrew it for height.  We bought the Nautilus and LOVE it.  She will be harnessed until 65 lbs. and then it turns into a reg. high back booster then the no back.
