s/o: DIY projects on the horizon
Anyone have something fun planned? Give us the details... Inspiration pictures are a bonus if able
Re: s/o: DIY projects on the horizon
So right now, my guest bedroom (which is a pretty sizable room), is a bright Tar Heel blue. Its like a more obnoxious Robin's Egg blue shade. It really isn't bad, but we have three (!!) rooms in that color. Sooo.. I'm wanting to make it into a mini-apartment for anyone who visits, since it is pretty big. I don't have pics at the moment, but right now on one side it has a bed, and the other side, it has a coffee table and lounge chair on it with plenty of room to spare.
The first order of change - will be painting! I have a couple of shades envisioned:

The deep purple will be for the bed's accent wall. Maybe.
Other than that.. I think I want to order a couple of bookshelves from ikea for the back wall. The no backing will let the color shine through. We've built shelves like this before, but .. yeah, its worth it to buy these I'd say.:P
I'm really not 100% sure on the colors yet. I definitely love the plum idea, but not for a whole room. I would loooove opinions.
well I have failed miserably at trying to PIP.
I am redoing our laundry area .. which is part of the garage. Our house was built in the 60's. And in order to differentiate it from DH's man cave
I am painting it green, and cabinets bright white. We are going to make a drying rack on the hot water heater door that can be folded down when in use and extra shelves for storage.
This past fall we re-did our kitchen. I still need to stencil the walls and caulk around all of the countertops.
And one we didnt have on the to do list for awhile is our guest bath. We just realized that the tile is popping off on one side.. remember built in early 60's. So we are going to have to pull the tile and put in new board, and then retile. DH is pretty sure we can use the existing tiles, with a little elbow grease to clean them up.
Has anyone regrouted existing tile? any tips?
We're not moving into our new construction house until June... but I already know that painting is going to be a big one. They let me pick ONE color for the entire house. (Walls and ceilings).
The problem is that our budget won't allow for all the new furniture I want until we've been in the new place a few months and built back up the savings after we make the DP. I don't feel confident enough to choose colors without the furniture that will be there for a while. And I know getting DH to paint after we move in will be a challenge.
We also will need to figure out how to install wood blinds throughout the house asap.
And, I plan on telling the builder to leave off the giant mirror in the master bathroom so I can install individual framed mirrors over each sink. Sounds like an easy task... but my indecisiveness will leave this as a big ordeal, I'm sure.

My entire house is a DIY project.
Currently at the top of the list:
Replace my tiny tv stand with something like this:
The television wall is very long, so I want a long (but low) tv stand, and I want to put some big bookshelves on either side.
I need a rug in the living room. I haven't found anything I like, so right now I'm playing around with FLOR carpet square samples.
My entryway is a very short hallway that opens up into the living room. One way of the hallway is wallpapered with some weird old lady beige striped wallpaper. I want to strip it off and paint, so this will be my next project that doesn't involve just buying something.

Mine is not really a house project, it's more like a craft project. I want to buy some cool fabric and make myself an Hermes bag from the Hermes paper cutout pattern!! I know it's LAME!
I got something similar to this (for a great deal!!!) on jcp.com. It's not quite as low as htat - but it looks really similar and has some shelves on the sides that you could put books (we store dvds). I don't think I paid more than $500 for it.
