I've been on the edge of my seat watching all of this unfold. Unfortunately, there is still unknown about what this will mean. Does this mean Sulieman takes over? Will power be handed over to a military council (in which case the US will possibly break off diplomatic relations and all of our aid to Egypt)? The "what next" is a very big unanswered question so, while I am really encouraged by this development, I'm not yet breathing a sigh of relief.

You are NOT a nerd. I think it's awesome that you follow politics and US foreign relations so closely. It's a pretty sheltered life in FL, I followed a lot more when I lived in NY. Ok, I have a FFFC now. I have become a headline reader and that is lame. I'm starting a New Years resolution. Last week I changed my car radio from my ipod to NPR again finally, and I am never going to eat a bite of CCF bread ever again in my life.

Have you ever eaten at Cheesecake Factory and they give you the whole wheat and sour dough bread when you sit down? (I hesitate to use the company name online because of what happened to Darrelsbride but I'm pretty safe because I don't complain about it) It's fine to eat the bread if you go there every so often, but when you are eating that bread 3 times a day 5 days a week it is like crack. You neeeeed it. I've been off the crack for a week and I'm not going back.

COPace, in retards to your post on the FFFC thread but more related to this one, is it mostly economic reasons for the protests? I had a hard time thinking it was entirely idealism motivating them but it would be nice to think of it that way.

From what I understand, they have a real wealth distribution problem. The middle class has practically disappeared in Egypt under Mubarak's rule and increasing costs of food and othe necessities have made the poor in Egypt even poorer as the rich have become richer.

There has also been a perception by some that Mubarak was just the U.S.'s lap dog, bending to the will of the west. He pushed hard to ensure that his government remained strongly secular.

Obviously, the protests and successful ouster in Tunisia has set of a wave of similar protests throughout north Africa and the ME. It was just the catalyst the Egyptian people needed I guess.

Watching these people celebrate is really uplifting. I hope the rest of the battle is downhill for them.

Been following this for the past couple weeks. Was very happy for the Egyptians when I heard his resignation was official and immediate. Here's hoping that they are now able to make the best of their situation!
