Three months to the day of our wedding, my dress and veil came back to me. In a box, and all I can see of it is through a window. Made me a little sad yesterday. Sniff sniff.

ha me too - I have mine in a bag waiting to take it to be preserved.
Question: did you have to have it dry cleaned before you had it preserved, or did they do the cleaning as a part of the preservation process? I need to get on the ball and take mine!

I actually ordered the kit through Affordable Preservation (link below). They send you the kit that ships the dress to the Wedding Gown Preservation company (WGPC - link below), but at a much cheaper price than if you go through a dress store. As an example, the bridal store I bought my dress from uses WGPC for cleaning and preserving, and they wanted like $250. But, I got the celebrity line kit through Affordable Preservation and it was $189.
I was a little skeptical, but it seems fine and was a very smooth process (good reviews online and I read on forums other people who did the same process). They mail you the kit, and you put your dress and three accessories (so I did veil and wrap) in the box and UPS pick-up of the box is included. It ships directly to the WGPC, and about three days after they signed for the UPS box, I received an email from WGPC saying they had received my dress. Once it was cleaned and preserved, I received another email stating it was being shipped back to me by UPS (signature is required when it's delivered to you). Also, they send you stickers to put on the stains (and say not to worry about marking the hem), but I really didn't have any major stains on my dress. I am pretty happy with it!

haha...mine's not even in a bag. I came home from the hotel the day after and tossed it onto the couch downstairs (petticoat and all) and that is where it has sat ever since. Mind you, we don't have a large place and my housemate has been on my case to do something with it.
Perhaps I will...it's just so costly to clean when I'm not going to keep it.
Married 11/6/10
My mom is going to preserve mine. We talked it over and decided my dress wasn't the kind of dress you cut up to make baptismal gowns. It lasted 5 years wrapped in a cotton sheet awaiting the day I would marry.
(Long backstory there). It was in pristine condition after all that (and is clearly well made and has no damage or stains to speak of after the wedding... shocking) so we feel there's a chance preservation will work (sometimes it doesn't, sadly).
Also, I know it's too early to really tell, but my 3-yr-old niece keeps informing people she wants to wear Auntie Sarah's dress when she gets married. Mind you, her mother's dress is gorgeous and she has seen the lovely portraits of my sister and her other aunt but she firmly insists she doesn't want to wear Mommy's or Auntie Em's or any other dress... Auntie Sarah's is it for her haha. Who knows, she may very well want to do this one day, and I'd be thrilled if she did!
