That's tonight's episode (it might be a repeat). So what is yours? Something where a traditional dish was tweaked a little. Tell us what it was like and where you had it. I'll have to think about it myself...

  • Chicken Salad at Martin's West in Redwood City. I ordered it thinking, meh...it could be good. Everything else here is good. I anticipated a chicken breast on a bed of greens and veggies. Mmm...no.

    They take the dark meat of the chicken, roll it up in the chicken skin and bake it, so the skin gets nice and crispy while leaving the inside moist and tender. Each bite you take has that delicious, crispy skin. Served with broccoli, blue cheese, or whatever foods are local this time of year, and a mustard vinaigrette. So so good!

  • Nearly everything at Gochi in Cupertino. It's a Japanese place but their specialty is Japanese style tapas - there's hardly a piece of sushi to be found. They make some amazing pizzas topped with things like egg, eel and seaweed. And for dessert, creme brulee infused with green tea. My stomach is growling just typing about it!

  • So this was pre-vegetarian days... but I always loved the BLT at Chow in Lafayette.
  • Vegan "Sweet and Sour Chicken" at Golden Era Vegetarian Restaurant in the TL.

  • Mine would be the California Eggs Benedict at Flames.  They add tomato and avocado.  I wish I could have one right now.

  • the mac and cheese at the Tipsy Pig in SF .. granted i've never had it AT the pub but they put the recipe up on SF Gate and i HAD to try it ....

    what makes it different .. the cheeses - extra sharp white cheddar, bleu cheese and smoked gouda; the shot of bacon drippings for that extra added smoky flavor (no ritz cracker crumble oven mishaps necessary :P) it's YUMMY. definitely BIG KID mac and cheese, although the lil one in my house LOVES LOVES LOVES it too Big Smile

  • Toss up: Mac & Cheese at Beecher's (Pike Place Market, Seattle), or Paula Deen's Sweet Potato Casserole, which takes the place of candied yams at my holiday table.

  • This is a toughie. The only thing I can think of is Carne Asada Fries from Lolita's in SD. A twist on the traditional nachos, but instead of tortilla chips? French fries!

  • The first thing that came to my mind is the Beard Papa's cream puffs, which are slightly different than the traditional French's p?te ? choux.
  • I love the eggs benedict with cured salmon rather than ham at Linn's in Cambria. I crave it all the time!

  • I forgot to come back to this one!

    Blue corn tortilla enchiladas at Zia Cafe (New Mexican food) in Santa Barbara. So good and a little variation on traditional enchiladas. You can get red or green chile sauce (they import their chiles from New Mexico). The cheese they use is really yummy. Another twist on a traditional dish there is the sopapilla fajitas. They use sopapilla (a thick fry bread) instead of tortillas. They're really good, too!
