Hi there, and welcome to the board!

Feel free to introduce yourself; we're a nice little community here and like to know our "neighbors." Are you new to the area? Newly married? What's one random thing about yourself?

For the rest of you reading, feel free to share something about yourself so it isn't all one-sided.

Re: *~ Hoektastic ~*

  • I'll start:

I've been married 7.5 years, no kids, two cats. Love my walkable neighborhood and a big proponent of shopping at local businesses. We are fans of the Whitecaps and are counting down until opening day (2 months from yesterday!). I am a former- and wanna-be-again journalist.

Something random about me: I can touch my tongue to my nose.

  • Thanks for the welcome!

I grew up in Grand Rapids. Moved away for 12ish years and came back about 2 years ago.  My H and I have been married for almost 5 years and have a one year old boy.

hmmmm ... One random thing about me?  How about three - I like wine, I like to craft and I love olives.

My random things are way lame compared to yours!

We also live in a walkable area.  This Saturday I think we will try to tow our little guy out to eat in his sled. We'll see what the snow situation is at the time. I love winter, but I can't wait for spring this year so we can enjoy our hood a little more.

  • I'll be married 3 years in May.  We have a 7 month old son.  I stay-at-home, but I am taking a course at GRCC to be a certified pharmacy technician.  I'll be done in June.  We live in Grandville, and my husband is a security supervisor at Woodland Mall.

Random facts- My hair is not naturally curly, I perm it.  I always carry chapstick and my sunglasses with me wherever I go, 365 days a year.  I love to cook, but dislike baking.

I feel I need these thing in my life. Now.

I had an olivepalooza at Olives in EGR. The house salad with olive dressing, then an olive burger. It was one of my most happy moments ever.

This isn't crafty but I know you like to bake too so I'll share:  I'm going to attempt to make these for Jason's birthday.

Anyone know where I can get some baker's twine?

So cool! And yum! Please keep us posted about how this turns out.

Bed bath and beyond? I am pretty sure that I have bought twine there for when I roast turkey. In the utensil area.

I have a bunch of cake tops saved in the freezer from when I made H's birthday cake. I am planning on trying to make Cake pops for my niece's birthday party this month. We'll see.

I've never been to Olives.  I want to go!!!

  • Go - The food is good and I had a yummy glass of wine with my meal.  The service is great and like the cozy atmosphere. They are on Restaurant.com also.
  • So, when you left GR, where did you go?  And what kind of crafting are you doing these days?

About me: I'm a nocturnal nestie who used to be on a lot more when I was working full time.  Now I spend my days playing Candyland and making snow forts with my 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son.  I'm in a Master's program for Counseling, and still on the lookout for a job somewhere in nonprofit land.  I, too, love olives.  A lot.

  • Hi, Hoektastic!  Welcome to the board.

I'm Kasa.  By husband and I are both originally from northern Michigan.  I hate olives and think they ruin everything they touch (sorry).  I love yoga and I find it to be ridiculously therapeutic.

So, when you left GR, where did you go?  And what kind of crafting are you doing these days?

After high school, I moved to Milwaukee for college. I stayed there for a year after graduating and worked at a non-profit. Then I decided to move to Chicago with a couple of college friends.   A few months later my sister set me up on a blind date with a guy she knew from high school who was also living in Chicago.  That blind date eventually became my husband.

He was part of a large layoff a couple years ago and was looking for jobs across the US.  Thankfully he was able to find a job in West Michigan so we could move home!

The craft project I am working on right now is a big stuffed 'H' pillow for my son. Before this I made the thank you notes for his first birthday (a silk screen of his hand print on the front of the card) Next project, hopefully, will either be a chunky knit afghan to match our new living room rug or a cross-stitch of a song lyric from the Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros song "Home".  (Home is where ever I'm with you.)

I am kind of all over the place with my projects - I like to bounce from one type of craft to the next.

  • Kasa- My husband wholeheartedly agrees with you about olives. He can't stand them.
  • Welcome!

I'm MrsKerCo, but KerCo is fine too.  ;-)  I'm originally from the Lansing area, and moved to GR six years ago now.  I try to join in on the conversations when I can, but after coming back from maternity leave in November, I've just been crazy busy at work, and don't always have the time.  I'm with Kasa and think that olives ruin everything they touch, and that they are absolutely grody!  I'm into travel, like looking at/reading about fashion design and interior design, and blog stalking when I have time.

  • Hi Hoektastic!  I think olives are awesome.  Especially stuffed with some kind of cheese.

I'm Juli and I grew up in the outskirts of GR, went to school/lived in East Lansing for 8 years then moved back to GR when my husband got a job out here.  My degree is in elementary education and psychology but I'm working at an accounting firm right now.  I'm a fan of dogs, microbrewed beer, running, backcountry hiking, traveling, ic cream, the Tigers and Red Wings and MSU sports teams.  I'm also a fan of not taking anything too seriously and enjoying life. :-)
