Best Red Velvet in the Twin Cities?

Happy Romantic Weekend everyone!

My DH LOVES red velvet cake, and whenever we go somewhere and it's on the menu, we must order it. So, for valentine's day, I thought I would surprise him with a trip to whatever bakery/restaurant you guys think has the best red velvet - or maybe do a red velvet crawl.

Also good to know - we are celebrating V-day on Saturday/Sunday since he is in the restaurant biz and will be working on Monday. So it would be good if the place is open on the weekend.

Thank you in advance!!!

P.S. The best we've had so far - BLVD kitchen & bar, and that was a recent discovery.

Re: Best Red Velvet in the Twin Cities?

  • I love the red velvet cupcakes from A Piece of Cake on Selby.

  • Penny Steele Custom Cakes has AMAZING red velvet.  They did our wedding cake (not red velvet though... we had banana bread cake and Bailey's chocolate. mmmm)

Anyway. I'm not sure how far in advance you have to order, and they may only do big wedding cakes actually.  But, they do have the best tasting cake in the Cities, according to most of the girls on TK too :)

  • I like the red velvet cake at Salut.
  • Salut - one of the best restaurants in the cities, and absolutely some of the best Red Velvet cake I've ever had in my life! Locations in Edina and Grand Ave. in St. Paul. I've only had the red velvet in St. Paul, but I'd assume they have the same dessert menu in Edina.

Also, Cheesecake Factory has amazing red velvet cheesecake.

  • Carol's Restaurant in Blaine! They have an amazing red velvet cake that has a one inch layer of cheesecake inside. Delicious!

But I like mine better. I make amazing red velvet cake.

  • Funny!  There was just an article in the Strib (I think it was the strib) about "authentic" red velvet cake.  They had a recipe from Paula Deen.  You could make it at home.

  • I'll second the Red Velvet Cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory. Amazing!

  • Pittsburgh Blue has great red velvet.
  • *wipes drool off mouth*  I am totally jonesin' for cake now!!  :-)

  • Thank you so much everyone!!! I would bake, but I am awful at it. And actually, DH makes amazing red velvet cupcakes, but I figured he'd like to not bake for Vday (since he always does), so this is the best I can do. Smile

  • I love red velvet cake...it was our wedding cake and we got a delicious one from buttercream. I am always on the hunt for a good one as well....here are the places I've found that are great: Stella's Fish Cafe, California Pizza Kitchen (surprisingly), Cafe Latte on grand, and Norman Quacks in Forest Lake.
