Does anyone participate in a CSA?
I'm thinking about joining a CSA this summer for some fresh veggies and such. Has anyone ever joined one before? Any tips?
The only I am looking at has a half share ( full share amount but you pick up biweekly) for 16 weeks (8 pick ups) for $225. That seems like the going rate around here. They also offer a cut flower share for $48 that I am really interested in.

Re: Does anyone participate in a CSA?
Not here.
But several of my friends in DC do one at Dupont and I also have a friend who is part of a co-op in PA. We'll likely do it when we return.
Pros: Awesome food-- so fresh; supporting independent farms; better value (at least the co-ops I'm familiar w/ are primarily organic and at a much better cost, than say, Whole Foods)
Cons: Too much food. Disclaimer, two of my friends that belong are single, so are cooking for 1 most of the time. But even my married friends say it's an ungodly amount of food--- ie 16doz apples at once. Even if you guys eat one ea/day AND make pie/treats, it's still a boatload!
One of my friends who did one last year said the same thing about too much food for her family of 4 (2 small kids). The one I am joining says that a full share is 2/3 of a brown grocery bag every week. I dont think that sounds like a whole lot personally. I am doing a half share option that I get the same amount but only pic up every other week, b/c I can't commit to picking up weekly b/c the farm isnt exactly close to me.
Im excited! Its got me thinking about spring and summer LOL!
no but people in my neighborhood do it (i follow a neighborhood yahoo group) and they seem to love it.
Its community supported agriculture. You pretty much pay up front for a season of fruits and veggies. It give money to the farmer up front for farming expenses.

Sounds really cool. My parents have a huge garden so we get all our veggies & potatoes and eggs from them. But I would love to look into fresh fruit.
