I'm working as a temp through a staffing agency at the moment. We had a staff meeting at the office I'm assigned to, where part of what we discuss is my availability to work overtime (fine, as long as it's pre-approved by the staffing agency).
My supervisor mentions to another co-worker that it may be a moot point. At that point, my heart sank, as I wondered if that meant that work was dwindling, and they wouldn't need me anymore.
Apparently not -- my supervisor's boss wants to have a meeting in a few weeks to discuss the possibility of offering me a full-time position! My staffing agency paperwork says that any offers of direct hire must go through the staffing agency, because they will negotiate salary and benefits on my behalf.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation? Were you involved in the negotiations at all? Were you happy with the outcome? This is my first assignment through this staffing agency. Before I registered with them, I googled them. I found one review (a bad one), but it's quite a few years old.
Re: Temp to perm experience?
You should talk to the recruiter that placed you.
I'm a recruiter. I do negotiate on behalf of my candidates and clients but I always take into consideration what the candidate wants and try to get them as much as possible while meeting my client's needs too. My candidates always have a say in the process.
